Had the sampler 8 beers in all, they were out of the Pale Ale. All had nice color and flavor. I enjoyed the IPA. I have been here a number of times now and find everyone, workstaff as well as customer very friendly.

Second time I've visited in a week. This time I had the Ports Pale Ale (great hops flavor, crisp, very nice). I drifted over to a London Tavern (ESB), and finished with a Black Cat Stout (a little to "sour" for my taste, not exactly what I expected, it was a poor try at an imitation of Guinness Extra Stout...)
Once again I have to throw the penalty flag on the crap-@ssed service. The same bartender that served me previously was there. Again, it took a few minutes to be acknowledged by him (I WAS SITTING AT THE BAR!!!!!!), and several minutes to get to place a food order. The place was packed, and the bar full, so I don't know if he was overwhelmed, but he did act like he didn't give a rat's @ss. I don't think he was overwhelmed because I observed the same crummy customer service twice in a row, with the bar full once, and almost empty another time.
On top of his glacial speed, and again for the second time in a row, he got my order wrong. (I ordered a half portion of beer battered mushrooms, and, like the yam fries of my first night, THEY DIDN'T ARRIVE....).
Oh well, the quality of the beer mitigates the poor service, but I'll try to seek out the owner and let her know about this.

Visited for the first time on New Years eve. While there was a private party in one area of this place, the bar/general area was open for business as usual. When I came in there was maybe 3 people at the bar, and a few tables. I sat at the bar, and actually had to wait about 2 minutes for the bartender to quite talking to his buddy sitting at the bar, before he decided to greet and serve me. I give him a "D" for customer service. He wasn't very attentive, didn't seem to have much in the way of memory or personality.
The beer, however, helped mitigate the poor customer service. I ended up having three pints of their "London Pub Ale" which is an ESB. Very good, good hoppy and malty nose, crisp tasting, well done.
Kelly the owner came and greeted some folks at the bar after a while, a very nice lady, but she could still benefit from providing customer service training to her crew. When I received my food order, I didn't get the yam fries, I got the regular french fries (thanks to the bartender's forgetfullness, or memory deficit - I specifically told him yam fries. Anyway, after I asked, the waitress said she'd bring me a sample of the yam fries. No dice. She either forgot (??) or blew me off.
I'd like to go back, and probably will, for the beer, but overall the service sucked.

I am torn. While I love the beer, I absolutely hate the owner and the management. If this wasn't the only place in Stockton to get a good beer, I would never return.
The seasonals are especially fantastic, as Steve is always experimenting and getting better and better. The IPA is the best of the regular pours.

A very sports-oriented brewpub with a nice airy atmosphere and an outdoor patio. Pretty good beer selection. Tried a pint each of the IPA, Indian Red Ale and the Black Cat Stout. Sanwiched in between the IPA and Red Ale, had a pint of the seasonal choice, Blunder and Splunkys Belgian-style Wit Bier. The IPA had a nice citrus bite. The Wit bier was good but not great. The Red Ale was tasty. The Black Cat Stout was the pick of the litter. Fun to watch; more fun to drink. The food menu is standard so I went with the 10" combo pizza. The hot links and artichoke hearts made it special. Was going to bad mouth the service a little because they seemed a little slow but then I got my bill. Since I had four pints, the bartender charged for the Sunday pitcher special. A ten dollar pizza and four pints cost me sixteen dollars. The service got a lot better real fast.

The beer was good, but not noteworthy. We had lunch there, and the food was awesome! The small order of beer-batter mushrooms was enough for three, and the sandwiches were very good. Service was very good. We liked the ambience and décor. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Nice place, enjoyed the friendly people. The beers could use a little work, rather bland. Next time I'm in town I"LL try again. Heck the friendly people are enough to bring me back. Besides they were out of Pale Ale.

I work across the street from this place and i will only go there if there is a soccer game on at lunch time. Me and my friends use to be regulars but the beer has gotten really bad. the beer is never consistant. The service is always super slow. i have gone to lunch there and been late getting back to work after just ordering a sandwich, AND I WORK ACROSS THE STREET. It took one time an hour and a half for lunch.
The beer quality is never consistant one week the black cat is good then the next you can't drink it. I would stay awy from this place it is not worth it.
The onl plus i can say is that the Yam Fries are great, if they have them in stock, because i have gone in several times and they have been out.

One waitress had an attitude but the rest of the staff was very good. The bartender (can't remember her name)was as good as I've ever had and I've been to over 150 brewpubs across the U.S. Will be back!!

The beer varies from time to time from good to outright nasty. Nothing to say about the food. Just a few steps below Denny's. Good atmosphere. Only Brewpub in Stockton, no other alternatives

I plan on going back when I'm in the area. I visited this place several times and had very good beer and service. Even got the recipe for the seasonal dopplebock, it was a smooth tasting beer. I didn't think I would like it but I tried a few of the other beers and then went back to the dopplebock. I'm getting ready to make some soon.

Been here many times over the years, the last being 12/16/03. The beer has improved substantially, better balance and some seasonal choices you don’t see all the time. I had the old standbys, Indian Red and London Tavern and the seasonal Dopplebock. All were true to style and with no off flavors detected. Service was excellent, food is good but not great.

Great service if you are not there on Dollar Pint night. If you are there for Dollar Pints (now on Tues), are you really there for good service and ambiance, anyways?! Sundays are great for watching sport and enjoying $5 pitchers. The bartenders are happy to talk to you about the sports collectibles behind the bar, and are very amiable to new faces too. We go there about once a week... and I have to confess to LOVING the yam fries.

Previous poster must have been at a different place. On July 9th, I was there, as I always try to stop by when I pass through Stockton, They had just tapped a "Road Hog Red" (7.0+%), which was fantastic! Though high in %, it was nice and smooth, with a wonderful flavor. Usually my favorite is the "Hitman Gold" which garnered "exceptional" marks in a recent Celebrator Beers News blind tasking - their fruit laced beers did well too, but I'm more of a hop man. Speaking of hops, the IPA is to die for, what an IPA really should be. The one thing I've always liked about Valley is the beers are indeed full of flavor, each with a different profile. Oh yeah, had their Steam Beer too - pretty damn good.
$5 pitchers on Sunday, $1 pints on Tuesday (as of this writing) - Life doesn't get much better.
Who on earth would even order Yam Fries? Regular fries were fresh from the oil, and the wings were excellent (battered and spicy!). Burgers are very popular, and rightly so.
Been to brew pubs all over country (and world) and I wish I had a brewpub like this in my hometown.

Do they serve a beer at this place that isn't bland? No! Avoid the yam fries like the plague. The atmosphere with old beer signs is generic as can be. One of only 6 brewpubs I label as "awful".

Huge bar...box-shaped with an Indian Motorcyce in the middle. Very much a sportsbar...but well worth it for the great service we recieved from the Bartender (she gave us some cool goodies too).
Beers: Valley Brew Pale*(beer flavored water...yuck), Hitman Gold**(okay beer, but again, lacking in flavor), London Tavern***(Not a bad ESB, but lacking the hops for balance), Indian Red****(all aroung strong beer), IPA****(sharp hops aroma/flavor...but not overpowering, another strong beer), Steam****(clomplexity of flavors, bet it was awesome when it was young), Apricot***(tastes like what a scratch-n-sniff would...but good if it's just one)

Casual atmosphere. Just of the main street and easy to miss. Passing by the area and only had time for one brew. Many brews to choose from but I went for the stout. Very nice! Wish I had more time. Looking foreward to try the others.

You should probably hunt this one down (no easy task, mind you) if you find yourself in Stockton. Wide selection of generally pretty good beers available, and fairly priced, at that....//TSB

Stay away from the Jambalaya unless you like BBQ sauce. The worst 'Cajun' food I've ever tasted. The beers were a mixed bag, the Pale Ale being good, the IPA was poor at best. Atmosphere was very nice, and outdoor dining was available. Get a decent chef in the house and work on the beer, and they might have something!

A very good selection of beer styles. Holiday Ale is real good now, not too spicy. Easy to find now that it is quite popular. Kids love the corndogs on the menu.
