Tied House San Jose closed in May of this year. Apparently the square footage of the place was its downfall. To much room and not enough customers unless the NHL Sharks were in town. The Mt.View brewpub is still in business.

With the exception of the Gold, all the beers I tried had the same nasty aftertaste (these included the Cascade Amber, Ironwood Dark, New World Wheat, Oatmeal Stout and India Pale Ale - I stopped sampling at this point). The Gold was good though and I would recommend sticking to this. There was a $1/pint special on a brew called Red Line - I couldn't finish it - it had a taste closer to malt vinegar. On a good note the service was excellent, and the wings were tasty. With some better quality control on the beer this place could be top notch!

Tried the Mull-tied (a winter seasonal), the seasonal fruit beer (passionfruit), the Ironwood Dark, the Amber, and the New World Wheat. Out of the five the Mull-tied was probably the most interesting. The Ironwood Dark and the Amber were alright. The Wheat was a bit weak, and the passionfruit was disappointing.
We tried the Tied-Combo appetizer plate, which inlcuded calamari, garlic pest fries, onion rings, and cajun shrimp. All were pretty good, but would have been better if the fires and the calamari were not seasoned the exact same way. The Brewer's burger with grilled onions and bacon added was pretty darn good. The Beer mustard chicken was well liked by my dinner companions. The tortilla soup was also good, while the Turkey club was unexceptional.
The service was a little underpar. I had to wait quite a while with an empty glass between visits from our server. This was especially egregious given that there were three tables with patrons and three servers. Our waiter seemed far more interested in watching the Sharks game than waiting our table.

Uninteresting beer selection and uninteresting beer. The amber was tasteless. The stout had some body and flavor, but was very mild for a stout. The Red "faceoff" speciality selection was OK, with some malt and wheat structure. The food was as bland as the beer.

In summer of '06 Happy hour 4-6 PM had $2 drafts and selected half price appetizers. Bartender said they are quiet during the summer and busier during the winter, especially events or Sharks games. They were only brewing one style when I visited, but said they brew more when they are busy.

I've been stopping in at Tied House SJ for the past few years waiting for that special moment but...To anyone that actually wants a decent beer when they are in the Santa Clara Valley, go to the Rock Bottom in Campbell. Okay ,it's a franchise but the beer quality is far superior to Tied House. Actually the Tied House in Mt.View seems to have better beer. Maybe this one is catering to the tourist dollar and not the true beer fan. Had a pint each of the Golden, Amber and a couple of the California mandated small glasses of the Stout. The Golden tasted a bit like hay, the Amber(even though I got it for free as an over pour) was nasty and the Stout was decent but...Was going to order some food at the bar but it was such a zoo, even without any events at HP Pavilion, that I figured I'd cut my losses and run. I'll never be one to say "skip this place" because one mans pain is another mans pleasure. Having grown up in this area, I hate to say we are devoid of a truly good local brewpub.

This was the third stop on a short tour of area brewpubs and would have to say the best. The Ironwood dark was the beer of choice for the evening nice malt flavor, not too heavy. The raspberry wheat was nice, had a mild raspberry flavor that didn't overpower. For dinner we ordered a couple appetizers, shrimp and the Brewers platter, the shrimp were good but the Brewers platter was awesome. Several different sliced cheeses, a hunk of Brie, bread, ribs, sausage and smoked fish, (salmon and trout). Enough for the four of us. Pretty big place with lots of seating areas but fills up fast before a Sharks game. Overall great place, definately worth the stop.

The beer was clean, but very un-memorable. I had the ESB (seasonal) and amber, neither of which were noteworthy. As with other reviews, the gameburger (bison) was great as was the service at the bar. Not worth going out of your way to visit.

Nothing hoppy here. Game burger rocks! Some taps were actually quite skunky (perhaps due to a glycol system?). Place is Huge. Not much going on in the place.. a couple of corporate groups and then some nights have loads of younsters. Friendly bartenders. Beer is definitely lacking, but its around the corner from work and that buffalo/ostrich / venison burger is super tasty. Plus, they have a stack of Celebrator mags, woohoo!

The beer selection was about all I would go for again. The food, so-so. I had garlic fries - kind of hard to mess up. The fish & chips - not so great, no seasoning on the fish before frying, or after, it seems. The service wasn't so great either. Our server didn't even know much about their "Clubhouse" when I was asking about it. Now that I know about the Mtn View location, I am going to give that one a shot and hope for better. I hope so, since its closer to home!

It's a barn like structure and is very busy on Friday nights. No IPA on tap. The amber was okay. The dark beers are much better.

This is a large facility located amid a cluster of restaurants and bars in the downtown area. During a recent conference gig at the nearby Convention Center I visited twice for lunch. Five brews were on tap at that time: Alpine Gold, a nice, crisp, lager-like light beer with a hoppy character; New World Wheat, which tasted as undistinguished as the vast majority of its lemon-laden bretheren; Maibock, a smooth and not overly sweet version which was fairly good; Ironwood Dark, a pedestrian brown ale, and; Cascade Amber, a creamy, malty, and pleasant enough product. No pale ales, and that was a disappointment. Although I greatly prefer darker beers the Alpine Gold was my favorite. On the food front, I tried a burger and found it wanting in so many ways save for the fine pickle accompaniment. However, the southwestern chicken fusilli in chipotle cream sauce was quite good and is definitely recommended. Overall, this may be the best brewpub in San Jose but unfortunately, that is saying very little. Go north for better beer, fellow Pubcrawlers!

The beer was good, nothing out worldly. I visited CA very excited about visiting microbrew world. San Jose is not it. Very plain jane beer in San Jose. Food was good. Facility was nice. Good place to watch a Sharks game. Best brew pub in San Jose.

I was really hoping to suck down a nice outmeal stout, but sadly no luck on that one. They did have a very very good porter though that I would highly recomend! Food was amazing, I will certainly have them on my list to hit again when in the area.

A pub that can't make proper fish & chips is a disappointment. However, the beer was very good, and they have a wide assortment of brews. Bartender was friendly and helpful, and knows the beers (something you can't always take for granted). Food may be OK most of the time, but on my only visit the fish was soaked in grease.

The beer has gotten simpler over the past year. Must be trying to duplicate Rock Bottoms style. The food was good as was the service. Just wish they made the beer as big as when I first came here 3 years ago. Good, Just not great.

It's been a couple of months since I went. I don't remember the beer very well other than it was very good. What I do remember is the Beer and Spicy Brown Mustard marinated Chicken. It was tender and delicious.

Don't know the Alameda Tied House closed, but while that was a good place, the San Jose Tied House is excellent! A good variety of quality brews, with fairly priced food done really well...//TSB

Excellent beer selection. When I went, the servers knew their product. When I was there they had an excellent bitter. Food is good, but the appetizers are only average. The menu is pub grub mainly, but they do it well. When we went it was winter (well, winter in California), but I'd imagine the patio area would be great on a warm summer evening. Great location, and fun atmosphere.
