I visited this brewery and was offered the following brews to sample; Summer, Steam, Liberty Ale, Bock, Porter, and Old Foghorn. I made reservations a couple months in advance and the tour was full. The tour guide had extensive knowledge of the brewey and brewing in general. His only job at the brewery is to give the tours, which he does in a most excellent fashion. While I probably won't go on the tour again, I will keep purchasing their wares. My only regret was that I didn't take the tour at Christmas time so I could sample the Christmas Ale. This stop is well worth the time, however it seems that they could offer at least three tours a day instead of the current two.

Get your reservations in early - our tour was full up, and it was one of the new 10:00am time slots. Well worth the trip, excellent tour of the brewery and history of the place, followed by an outstanding tasting session - no wimpy little shot glasses here, each beer offered was an ample quantity to sample and enjoy. If you go to the 10 am tour, after the tour you can go over a couple of blocks to Goat Hill Pizza for lunch, great pizza and when we were there they had Speakeasy Prohibition Ale on tap!(Sorry Anchor, that last was not meant as anything except advice for out of town hopheads) While we were sampling, the man himself, Fritz Maytag, strolled through the tasting room. I'm glad we signed up for the tour, made me appreciate the Anchor products I see in the stores back home.

The best of the best! Dave was an awesome tour guide. Very generous tasting at the end of the tour. The new Bock was very tasty despite my being told it was made with an ale yeast instead of the traditional lager yeast. The fresh steam beer is the best example of a California Common you will ever find. The only bee we didn't get to try was the Small Beer as they do not keg it. The brewery tour is very interesting. The open fermenters are a rarity in the U.S. now days as was the Grant although it's not used in the traditional way. This was a great tour and tasting. I would recommend it to anyone that is in the area. Sign up early though as it sells out fast. Kudos to Fritz and his very able crew!

Can only echo the statements of those that went before me. This is a great way to see the inner workings of a brewery. The sights, the smells the sounds all made for a great experience. And the work crew all seems to take the invasion of their workplace in stride. Lots of great photos both past and present add to the atmosphere. And the tour guide,Kate, made sure to keep the samples coming. Bravo Anchor Brewing!

Best tour ever! Make your reservations as early as possible. The hop room was the most incredible smelling place in the world. The kids loved being up close to all the production equipment. After an incredible tour the tasting room was beyond expectations! Mr. Maytag runs the best small brewery in the world!

Wow! What a treat to come here. We were lucky there was a cancellation that allowed us to get in for their once-a-day tour. Don't miss this place and be sure to call well in advance as their tours fill up fast. This was the most informative and fun tour we have ever been on. We have been on many brewery tours over the years and this is indeed the best. Kate, our "tour director," was fantastic. Her knowledge of Anchor's beers, the ingredients, the interaction of those ingredients, her enthusiasm - none of that could be any better. And tasting Wort before the yeast was added to it was something we had never tried before! Not a bad drink - kinda sweet, but still good! We have always loved Anchor Steam and Anchor Porter, but we are now keeping our eyes open for Anchor's other beers. The samples were generous and included beers that are unavailable outside of California. This was an afternoon that we will never forget.

Have been to Anchor twice now. It is well worth the stop. Call in advance to make a tour appointment. Tour is fun and informative. Guides enjoy what they are doing. This is the only way that you will be able to enjoy tasting the beer at the brewery. All you can taste samples of all of their beers at a beautiful memorabilia filled taproom. Of course Anchor's beers are superb! Liberty ale is my personal favorite (IPA). Malty with a nice hop bitterness that is clean and refreshing. You can buy fresh cases of their beer right off of the loading dock. (pay inside) Highly reccomended!

Been there several times and always a pleasure. The tasting session after the tour is a nice treat, being able to sample their beers while talking to the employees.

I took the tour on 2/14. They have a very nice brewery and the tour takes you very close to every process along the way. The tasting at the end is very generous. They provide samples of all the beers they make. It takes about 2 hours, but well worth every minute.

I agree with the others -- they give a very good brewery tour. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. See their web site for information, http://www.anchorbrewing.com/about_us/tourinfo.htm They also make great beer.

Anchor is one of the nation's premiere craft breweries. Founded by Fritz Maytag of appliance fame, this brewery's products are sold all over the country in bottled form and in keg form in many places.
The tour of the facility is a must if your're in the area. The people are helpful and friendly and the informative tour covers all the stages of the brewing process. It ends in the tasting room where you can share a glass or two of all the Anchor products. Everything is great, except perhaps Anchor Small (a by- product of Liberty Ale) and many products taste even better on tap than from a bottle, especially Old Foghorn Barley Wine.
Awesome products and awesome people make Anchor a brewery worth visiting. If you're in the area, take the time to schedule a tour. You'll be happy you did.

We arrived early for the tour and were allowed to wait in the tasting room. Very friendly staff. Great Art Deco building, beautiful German copper brewery. The beers were at their peak of freshness. BTW, my wife loved the tour, and it was Valentine's Day!

The tour was great--the full fermentation tanks, the hop room, Fritz Maytag in his office. But the best part was the tasting. All of Anchor's beers are excellent. I found the Old Foghorn to be one of the best Barleywines I have ever had. Take the 19 bus, and it stops right in front of the brewery. If you like beer, visit Anchor!

I've been trying to quit drinking for two years now, but ever since I moved to San Francisco, I have given that endeavor up. The beer is just so fresh, pure, buttery, smooth, and rejuvenating that I must continue to frequent this establishment. They keep a leatherjack behind the bar for me and charge me the normal pint price. How great is that?!? It is best to go when there is still daylight. That's when the light coming from filled glasses looks other-worldly. It's so amazing to think that all the glass has in it is grain, water, hops and yeast. And you just know how nourishing it is as you drink it down. Cheers one and all! I'll see you at the Anchor!

Glad I made reservations well in advance as this is a don't miss location for anyone who brew and/or appreciates good beer. Tour guide was extremely informative but guarded a good bit of the information. I would too if I were making beer of this quality. The Liberty Ale, while always great, was spectacular when fresh from the source. Could have stayed all night and should have as the temperature reached 103F outside on the day of our visit. Glad I spent my Flag Day with Liberty Ale!
