On our recent stop 8-9-09, the Beer was warm and our waitress non existent. We had one beer and choose not to eat there. Have had better experiences in the past.

They weren't open but they served us beer and chips and salsa. The chile beer was great and the wife loved the apricot ale.

My wife had seen an advertisement or review the week before, so we decided to give it a try on our visit to Taos. Th place was very cosy - nice and warm inside which was great insofar as it was fairly cold outside. We were greeted by someone behind the counter as soon as we entered telling us to find a place. The place was fairly crowded so we grabbed the closest table. It was Tuesday night so sushi was the special for the evening. Not caring for sushi, I chose Wanda's Green Chile Stew (vegetarian). My wife chose the same. Taken a bit off-guard concering the beers, I chose the Rio Refresco. Normally I prefer dark beers and probably should have chosen the stout. The Green Chile Stew was superb - best we've ever had. The beer. . .ok, but a little light for the stew. We can't wait to return to Taos and return to Eske's. I'll certaily give the other beers a chance - but there's no doubt I'll order the Green Chile Stew.

I had heard of this Taos brewery and drove up for a sampling. I tried three beers with my meal. The first was the Rio Refresco, not bad tasting but immediately tasted like it went flat and lost it's taste. The second was the Artists Ale, this one also immediately had the taste of flat beer? My third choice was the Belgium Red, this was the best of the three beers tasted and it lasted a bit longer before getting that flat taste. Not sure what the problem was here, it's the first time I have had freshley poured beer go flat. The food and service was so so and we are not sure it we would return to Eske's.

This place is totally Taos. Funky, hippy and friendly. The beer was decent, but nothing stood out. Kudos for having the green chile beer, which I love but no one else seemed to. Great, eclectic menu is well suited for snackers, groups and vegetarians.

Stopped in late afternoon ... funky little place, locals charm. Had a nice appetizer and got a sampler of the beers. All had a detergent-like aftertaste that lingered. We chose the pale ale, which at first seemed ok but soon exhibited the soapy flavors as it warmed up. Cool place, but I can't recommend it cause the beer needs help.

Visited in early June. After driving several hundred miles from N. Utah it was nice to sit on the patio and try the beers. Although small inside, there is plenty of outdoor seating. 7 beers on when I was there. Rye, scottish, porter, stout, wheat, peach and chile. Good but not great. Green chile was excellent.

Service and food were really good, however, the beer selection seemed a little lacking (unless you include the guest beers they had on tap, which don't count at a brew pub!) If they have what you like, they will probably do it well, but that could be a big if...BUT they have a GREAT summer patio with a friendly pub dog running around! Anyway, where else can you go in Taos???

First off, this is a really small place. I'm not really sure how many tables there are because the "main" room was full and we were stuck in the back room....where interestingly enough they were doing food prep right out in the dining area. On top of that...two guys doing some work outside came and hand picked food off of the top of the storage container while we were sitting there. Can you say health code violations ??? The service was friendly but very inconsistent. With all of that , I only stayed long enough to try one beer, the 10,000ft stout which was actually quite good. Rather than stick around I bought a few bottles to take home & try later. So, my recommendation would be....beware of the food...and get your beer to go.

I just returned from Taos and was a bit disappointed in the one brewpub. It was a neat place that I could've loved if the beer had been better. That said, I did not regret my one trip, but did not return during our stay-which says a lot about the mediocrity of the beer. If you are in town, it is definitely worth stopping by.

The IPA was a good, English style IPA. Very good stout; great Rye beer. I'm not much for fruit beers, but my wife loved the Peach.

Stopped at Eske's on the way back from the String Cheese shows in Santa Fe. The food was good, interesting menu for a pub. I didn't try all of the beers but I liked Wanda's Wicket Wheat, not a huge wheat fan but it was hot outside and that quenched my thirst. The Mesa Pale Ale needs more of a hop bite, not as much as an IPA, but to give it more body. The E.S.B. was my favorite, close to a classic euro-style bitter, had an earthy, nutty kick to it. Just an opinion, but fruit and beer should remain separate..

The green-chile stew has been consistently outstanding since my first visit to Eske's in 1992. Wanda, please share the recipe! Eske's is still cozy and friendly too. The bitter was true to style--lightly hopped and easy to drink. A true session beer. I would have preferred the pale ale to be more highly hopped to counter the heat of the chile stew, but it was still an agreeable and well-made beer. Of the two stouts on tap, I liked the sweeter one. But neither really excited me enough to order a second one. I skipped the chile beer, but Eske's should not be skipped if you're in Taos.

I had to try the green chile beer. I guess its and acquired taste. however, the stout I had to wash down the previous beer was awesome! We ate there as well and were very pleased with the quality of the food and service. I had the green chile stew - excellent and my wife had a mid-eastern salad (tabouli (?))which she loved. A must-visit place if you are in Taos. They were roasing turkeys on the patio for Sunday night dinner and they looked and smelled delicious - sorry i could not have returned for dinner as well.

No generally great likes nor dislikes with this place. I was indifferent to the chile beer--a personal preference more than anything else. And, if you're looking for green chile stew, there are a lot of better choices around. Stick with the basics on the menu and you'll be fine.

Just came back from Eske's and they have added a great Scottish Ale. This form of ale is my favorite, and Steve has done a GREAT job. Eske's is a great place to escape the sun. Just sit back at one of the picnic tables under the shade of a tree. If you have a dog along on vacation with you just bring your pal on to the patio...all of the locals do.

Damn, that Green Chile beer is hot! And once you get used to it, very tasty too! This isn't a one-trick pony though, as I enjoyed a Barleywine on a second visit that was as smooth as they get. The pale ale is perfectly hopped and tasted great! With cool air and live music outside at night, this is a don't miss on your visits to Taos!

Only had time to stop for a quick one, and chose the chile beer... Most awesome! Great hot chile bite with a pleasant afterburn. I only had the Cave Creek chile beer before this, so it was quite a pleasure. Personally, we also liked being able to sit outside under the desert sun, so I can't an opinion on the interior.

Pale Ale was well balanced; had a sample of the chile beer (don't drink it too fast). I didn't eat, but this place was a pleasant diversion from the tourist trade in Taos. Great Atmosphere!

The beer is between Good and Great, but I gave it a Great because the quality is consistent. The atmosphere is wonderful. The seating comfort leaves a lot to be desired. When we're in town, we usually go on Tuesday nights (sushi night). They have unbelievable sushi with a New Mexican flair. Sure do wish that they would get rid of that stupid green chile beer.

We didn't eat at Eskes but did stop in for a couple of drinks while on vacation recently in New Mexico. The beer selection and quality were both good (although nothing ground breaking).
I take issue with other reviews that describe the place as a cozy pub. The place is lit up like Times Square on New Years eve - all bars, but especially pubs, should be dark. I'd rather have to shield my eyes from bright sunlight upon leaving than feel like I'm in the dressing room at a sporting goods store trying on a sweatsuit.
And liven up the music on a Friday night. If you go to the trouble of offering live music - always a great idea - please up the tempo, no matter the genre.

The best thing about this brewpub is that it doesn't look like a brewpub. It looks like a cozy little pub which is exactly what it is. In cold weather the small interior would help keep things warm and lively, and in warmer weather there's loads of deck space.
I had a Jordy's Irish Red which was excellent, but I did not care for the Brown Ale (too burnt and bitter). They also have Hacker-Pshoerr on draft as a guest beer, so you gotta like that.
