A rather slow Sunday afternoon, I found this brewpub to be a delight with friendly customers and staff. I had The Twist nachos and sampled four different beers including the IPAX, Laurel IPA, and the Black Rock Porter. A special brew called Giants Teamerbeir was my favorite (an amber with a bit of sweetness), although I enjoyed the porter almost as well.

I visited this brewpub on 5/6/08 and had the following beers; Titanium Pale Ale 7.4%, Bug Juice Ale 5.3%, Ipax 6.7%, Tree Frog Ale 7.6%, Dragon's Milk 7.6%, Black Rock Porter 5.3%, Stonehendge Stout 7.0%, Passionate Wit, Brimstone and Onyx cask. The place was very dark and it was hard to see the beers much less eat my dinner. The green chili burger brought back memories of New Mexico. I seem to recall the beers being of better quality in the past, but I enjoyed the visit all the same.

The Black Rock Porter, Reindeer Ale (seasonal), Dragon's Milk and Red Rock Ale (on the nitro tap) were all good, and the Titanium was excellent, but the Stout was the real stand out amongst the beers available. The main complaint I had about the beers was that they were out of many of the beers on their beer menu.
The food was disappointing compared to the quality of the brews. The wings were pretty good, but the nachos and the my burger were unexceptional. My wife made the mistake of ordering the Brewhouse Burger well-done, and it came out as a charred hockey puck.
Overall the quality of the beer makes this place worth a visit if you happen to be in the area, but don't bother making a special trip to this pub.

Nice pub feel when we walked in, tried the IPAX and the cask Brickhouse, both excellent beers, almost made us consider missing our BART train back to S.F. just to have a few more. Really good. Didn't try the food, but plenty of good smells from other diners. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive without hovering, just nice and laid back. Worth a visit to Berkeley for hop heads and beer geeks.

A high quality, local brewpub with great beer and pub food. I prefer TR's darker beers, such as the Dragon's Milk, Stonehenge Stout, Tree Frog and the (seasonal) Death Star Stout. The IPAX is also very good.

Love the cozy atmosphere at Triple Rock. Lots of wood gives it a warm feeling and they have a lot of beer paraphanalia displayed. Too bad the clientele doesn't put out the same vibe. Must be the college crowd but, hey, you are still just a State University. The beer selection was really good with eight beers on tap,two more cask-conditioned and one on nitro. The quality just didn't seem to match the selection. Had a pint each of the Red Rock Ale, Tree Frog Ale and the Dragons Breath(cask-conditioned).If I had to pick a best in the trio it would have been the Tree Frog but none of them made me want to jump up and say "Howdee!". Had the cheese quesadilla w/chicken from the standard brewpub menu. Maybe the jalapenos skewed my tastebuds as far as the beer tasting went but I don't think so. The bartendar spent more time yawning/reading the paper/sipping her ice tea than dealing with the customers. In fact the waitress ended up pouring me a beer and taking my food order despite the fact I was at the bar. Maybe I'll have to go back when the place is really jamming and see how things are.

I have come here occasionally since I moved to CA in 1991. I was never impressed by the beer but their pub has a great Berkeley vibe. My recent foray tasting a flight of the offering was somewhat disappointing. I could only recommend the Pinnacle Pale Ale.

I stopped in for dinner and a couple of pints while in town. I had an excellent IPA, very hoppy with a dry finish. My second pint was a nitrogen-kept brew, very unique. It was like a Newcastle Brown only a bit maltier and with a smoother mouthfeel due to the N2. Dinner was a half-sandwich and a bowl of veggie chili, very decent at only $5.95.
Decor was rustic and very pubby. Staff were friendly and attentive and gave advice on other beer bars in the area which are under the same ownership. Clientel seemed to be mostly regulars, students as well as older people. The atmosphere was comfortable. Worth a trip to Berkeley and just up the street from the BART station.

When I was in they had about 10 beers on tap, including a cask conditioned stout that was very good. Great beer selection and every beer was good. Try the Dragons Milk!

A great surprise on our beer trip to Ca. This was the first place we stopped in after our flight and we liked it so much that it was the one of the last places we visited before coming back. There's mainly a younger crowd (25-40) but everone there seems really friendly. The pub is absolutely crawling with older Brewania items (wooden beer carriers, signs, beer trays) that can seem a little tacky (maybe even themed). They must have listened to all the suggestions and have a descent menu (I got the fries and was very pleased). The same waitress served us both times, and she was very friendly, pleasant, and very knowledgable. Oh-yeah...about the coolest juke-box ever (Blackalicious---Dillon---Portishead---SNFever---John Spenser Blues Explosion)
Beers: North Side Pale*** (A cask conditioned beer that had a big head and strong yeasty aromas, a dry but hoppy aftertaste...let's call this one smooth and satiny), Red Rocket Ale****(cloudy reddish-brown, with a malty aroma only surpassed by the sweet maltiness of it's taste), IPAX****(My first experience with the flowery hops aroma and I must say that I'm a big fan...great taste and leaves you wanting more), Tree Frog Ale****(very litle smell and a small head, but wow what a great smokey-Scottish-taste), MonkeyHead Arboreal Ale*****(bottle conditioned and very sweet/malty...this really doesn't atste like 8%ABV, but believe me it surely is!!!!)
I would recomend this place to ANYONE...a great envirionment, very cool people, not too crowded, and WONDERFUL BEER.

I visited on a quiet Sunday evening. I thought the menu adequate for a brewpub and the hamburger was excellent. Fries just so-so. They didn't have a porter on tap when I visited so I tried the Stonehenge Stout. Very smooth, flavorful and full-bodied with no bitter aftertaste. I certainly intend to stop by again.

The Triple Rock is easy to get to, about a four block walk from the Berkeley BART station. The beers are consistently good and have been so for many years. On my last visit I had the Titanium, a light in color beer that packed a punch. I couldn't decide on the style. It seemed to be a cross between a pale ale and a maibock. I also had the Stonehenge. It was a very good stout, big and balanced. This place is worth the visit when in the East Bay.

The beer makes up for the service and the lack of a decent menu. In seven years in the bay area I've found nothing better and lord knows I've looked. Not the place for food or finding women; but the beer is lovely and the jukebox rules.

The food is basic but solid for snacking. The beer selection seems to rotate through a number of beers and they had about 8 on tap when I was there. I enjoyed this place, the beers were all distinct, and all were tastey.

Good beer w/ nice selections, too hot inside and glare from big window was tough on eyes, Fair service but waiters, waitresses knew their stuff, mostly just appetizers to eat which were marginal at best,(needs to have Pub Food like fish & chips, bangers, soup w/french bread...) The place gets very crowded, especially w/locals who tend to hang around yaking w/the staff instead of being a paying customer. Parking of course is non existant as this is downtown Berkeley, AND on Shattuck. Very hoppy IPA, nice wheat beers and Ales,be aware these are full bodied beers not much available for the faint at heart, or the "BUD" crowd. This is one of,if not THE oldest brew pubs around (and looks it)so for history sakes go visit, again avoid peak hours for best service and better chance at parking. Several other brew pubs abd beer bars around (Jupiter is down the block, and has it's beers brewed in it's parent company in Walnut Creek), Pyramid Brewery is close by and worth the visit too. Life's an adventure, explore!

Unfortunately, this place was overly crowded, so with no place to sit I left without trying any of the beers. If, God forbid, I should ever find myself back in Berkeley, I will make it a point to stop by there again.

Truely outstanding beers, in styles that not every brewer feels motivated enough to attempt. Really liked the IPAX, Tree Frog Alt, and Stonehenge Stout. Major negative with this place (except for the fact that's it's a siamese-twin-seperated-at-birth of Big Time in Seattle) is the fact that the only food available is watery soups and over-priced sandwiches. Where's the fish-n'-chips to go with my pint o' ale...? //TSB

I haven't been back to California for a couple of years, but I was quite impressed the times I stopped in at the Triple Rock.
As of the last time I was there, all they serve at the bar is their own brewed beer -- no hard liquor or other beers. This undivided attention may have helped in the development of some spectacular brews.
I particularly enjoy their overall strong level of malting and hopping. (However, as with most brewpubs, the brews can vary from day to day, and one day it may be better to order something you didn't enjoy during the last visit.)
Triple Rock is definitely worth a trip when you're in the Bay Area.

This is supposed to be a renowned Northern Cal joint - in reality it is awful. I tasted every beer trying to find one I liked, and found nothing even stylistically close to what it should be. An IPA too bitter, malty beers too malty - flavors that were offensive and disturbing. Please go somewhere else when in Berkeley!!!
