We have been going to the Brew Pub/JP Hops House for nearly 20 years and keep going back. Love the beer and popcorn. Jim & Pam are great down to earth and friendly people and the music is always enjoyable. I highly recommend this place to beer drinkers who like a relaxed and fun atmosphere, not too loud, and just the way we like it. Go see for yourself.

Dozens of beer on tap, tons more in bottles and stellar live music - what more would a beer lover want? Jim & Pam are wonderful hosts and will never leave you thirsty. Pam always has the place decorated for something – whether Halloween or Spudstock, there is always something on the calendar. And their support of musicians and the local community is outstanding. JP’s is a great place to meet old, or new, friends!

You'll want to check out this gem on the west side. It's the best place for live acoustic music with a great sound system and captivating talent.
Check out the events and holidays too, as Pam always has the place decked out with decorations, and other blings!
Jim and Pam are the best owners of any such venue in town. Come by and meet the family!

I've know Jim since 1986, and his wife Peggy for a shorter time. Their establishment is top notch for beer drinkers and fans of Blue Grass. Their beer selection is great and Jim is knowledgable about what he serves. The atmosphere is homey and once you've met the regulars they make you feel right at home. Keep an eye on the party schedule, they go all out for Halloween and do parties at the drop of a beer cap.

Very friendly pub with plenty of selections of beer on tap or bottle. It has a neighborhood friendliness but its music showcase make it a must see regional venue for Texas. While it has some influences from Nashville, it's not a country and western bar, it's....eclectic in scope is the best way I can describe it with jazz, folk, pop and cajun all showcased at various times and with open mic for amateurs. If you are looking for an easy, mellow time, this is the place.

This is just the right size with just the right people and just the right music; so enjoyable. And the beer? The selection of draught is magnificent. And the number of brands of bottled beer is vast. The live entertainment is such a welcome change from nearly everywhere else; it's SO much better.

I have been patronizing the Hops House since 1991 and have seen it through many incarnations and more than one owner. I even met a future ex-wife there. I now bring my next future wife with me. I recommend the place to anyone looking for a laid back establishment with lively conversation rather than loud overwhelming sports noise. They have a nice outside beer garden too. Get to know the regulars and they treat you like family. Jim knows his beer and Pam knows everything else. Get to know them and you'll be back.

JP Hops House is a wonderful venue for aspiring and seasoned musicians alike. They offer great service, a variety of beers of tap, and a nice stage with a great sound system for perfomers. Well ventilated, when I came home from the bar my clothes did NOT smell like cigarette smoke. There is a beautiful wooden patio deck in the back of the bar where you can get a breath of fresh air and check out the stars on a clear evening. I give JP Hops House a perfect 10!

The former manager of the Hops House, Jim Fowler, has now become the owner of JP Hops House. Jim has remodeled the pub, put in a stage, and is now working on making the west-side beer paradise into the premier acoustic showcase outside the loop. Great beer served in imperial pints, attentive service, and friendly regulars are still the draw at JP Hops House. Check out the best open mic in town (sponsered by the local chapter of the Nashville Songwriters and the Houston/Fort Bend Songwriters) on Sundays. There is acoustic music on Wednesdays starting early at 6:30. A variety of music can be heard on weekends, from classical guitar to acoustic blues. Oh, and beer? 24 or so beers are on tap, and around 200 varieties are in bottles. Check out the fantastic tap handle collection! JP Hops House is still a Houston gem, and getting better!

This place has quite an established reputation throughout Houston's homebrew and beer enthusiast community. There is alot of history here; it has been in business for decades and was the original location for the first annual Dixie Cup Homebrew Competition, which has now outgrown the bar and become an interstate level event. Eventhough they have a small drought selection, this is one of the better beer bars in Houston. They also have a very unique collection of old tap handles displayed around the room.

Large selection of beers on tap and a huge selection of beers in bottles. Friendly people and very good service. The pub is will lit without being bright and was well ventilated (Even though there were smokers in the pub, it was not very smoky). They also had several dart boards. If it was closer to Cypress I would be a regular.

Since my review a year ago, the Hops House has remodeled and spruced up a bit. There is now a small stage where musicians can play, and a darts area. An impressive tap handle collection (in excess of 200) is on display in the bar area, all representing beers once poured at the Hops House. I counted 26 active taps on my last visit, all served in imperial pints. Microbrew draught selections included Red Seal Ale from California, Flying Dog, Singletrack Ale, and New Belgium's Fat Tire and Sunshine Wheat from Colorado, and two taps each devoted to beers from St. Arnold Brewing and Real Ale Brewery in Texas. There is also a pair of draft ciders avaialble, and a draft rootbeer (sometimes Thomas Kemper, but most recently Abita). The Hops House is an unpretentious and comfortable place for good beer on the west side of Houston.

The Hops House has ceased brewing. They are now just a good beer bar again. They continue to have a nice selection of beers on tap including imports and micros. recently, their kegs have included beers from St. Arnold and Real Ale Brewery in Texas, Breckenridge, and Full Sail.

There is no razzle dazzle here. Just a pub serving great brew ( several which are made there ). The IPA they make is some of the best I've had. This is a neighborhood bar with a good selection of beers at reasonable prices. They are also cigar friendly.

This is the kind of place that I badly wished served great beer. The beer they make is pretty marginal - the good news is that they have tons of other beers on tap and in bottles. The folks here try hard, and may eventually make better beers - my recommendation is to pay them a visit if you are in the Southwest section of Houston

This is a beer hall that happens to make its own beer also. They did have a nice selection on tap of over 20+ beers. I tried the summer wheat and was very disappointed.
