I don't understand? This place is just plain lousy and no one should ever eat here. the food is crap and the price is high. There are too many good pubs in the city to waste your time at this place.

Pale and IPA lacked hop character. Oxidation and or stale hops seem to be the trouble. Much different than my last visit in March of 2002. Couldn't finish my second beer.

The IPA was full bodied but they probably could have upped the IBUs a bit. My wife, a Bud Lite drinker, enjoyed the Golden. The food was very good, especially the imperial rolls with the red sauce. Very spicy!

After reading all of the reviews I expected this place to be a huge disappointment. But since I live just a few blocks away I thought I would give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the decor was great. The service was excellent. The beer was great. I tried the seasonal rye beer, the stout, and the amber. The rye and stout were fantastic. The amber was a little bland though. The food was excellent but a bit overpriced. Still it was a nice change from the typical fried foods found at breweries. Overall I'm very happy I made the decision to go despite the reviews I read here and I'll definitely be visiting again soon.

I tried to find this place while killing time near Union Square. First, no one had heard of it. Second, it sure as hell doesn't look like a brewpub. The pale ale I had was good, but that was all I tried. It looked like they were set up for some serious asian/polynesian food menu, with a kitchen all along the back wall and chefs running around in their hats. Not what I expected, but at least it's a place to go hide from the shopping.

I gave this place an overall rating of good, only because it is a far cry from a typical brewpub. Though I must admit I liked the decor, and thought it was definitely unique, it just doesn't fit in with a typical brewpub atmosphere. The food was very good and the service was great. I would definitely visit again.

Eclectic mix of Asian and Europen food styles. The baked salmon and the sesame crusted walu are really good. Beers are consistantly fresh and well brewed. People complain about the hops in the IPA too much. You have to understand that the whole theme of the place is English colonization period in asia. That being saud, the IPA is a traditional English IPA, not an American (higher hopped) version, so I feel the hops are pretty close to the style being attempted. A great place to take somene for lunch after a business meeting, especially if they are buying because it's a bit pricy ($15-20 per entree). Only thing that is a bummer is the noise level is pretty high with the exposed kitchen across the whole back wall.

Although this place brews its own beers it feels like anything but a brewpub. That being said the beer was good. Of the 4 or 5 I sampled the stout was by far the best. The IPA did not have a strong enough hop profile for me and the others did not stand out at all. If you're in the area it's worth a stop but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Over priced, matching tie and hanky resturant. The beers take a back seat to the food.

S-l-o-w service by a server who knew very little about the beers on tap (e.g. "uh, the stout is the dark one, I guess"). The food was good, and the IPA was pretty good, but the rest were weak. Seemed like the owners were more interested in Interior Design that Designed a good staple of brews...//TSB

Very unusual brewpub, but consider the location. The King's stout and Gecko Bay Wheat (seasonal) are truly great. The decor is very upscale maybe, even snobby, but this is San Francisco. The food is outstanding, if you like asian-fusion. Try the Naan breads (lamb or potato)and satays (pork, beef or chicken). The bar itself is small and crowded, but there are a lot of tables both upstairs and downstairs, and a counter in back near the kitchen. The service is extremely inconsistant, completely dependent upon your server. However, small plates and appetizers do come quickly after you get to order.

We tried the sampler and really enjoyed the IPA, Dragons Breath and the stout. The IPA could have used more hops but it still went well with the spicy foods offered. The pils and lager were OK. This is definitely a place we will return whenever in the Union Square area.

Excellent food but the beer is just ok for a brewpub. IPA was fantastic when I first went to E&O in early '98, however, later in the year the brewmaster reduced the hoppiness to cater to tourists ...disappointing change.

This place was a little too snobby for me. We had to squeeze into the bar and the service did not improve for me when I began taking notes. Their flagship IPA was lame, but the stout was excellent. I don't care for this nitrogen injection in my beers that I found in the Bay Area, especially in an IPA

We've got to get Steve "the Golden Goalie" Zmak up here. Once we mentioned that we were reviewing the place, the service improved drastically. Actually, our server mentioned he couldn't get this site because it would appear on this calculator. Oh, But the Imperal Duck was very nice and just the right amount of spice. Went well with the King's Stout and Gecko Bay Wheat. And the people next to us were really cool.

Menu and beer are both great, and the waiters were pleasant and humorous. The interior is almost esoteric - different things from southeast Asia and India thrown together in seemingly no order. It made a very cool effect. Noise level is average.

Food is good and the place looks great - good place to meet friends for dinner. The beers, however, aren't that great - not bad, but a cut below the best brewpubs and micros. But I think most of the folks going there aren't really into great beers anyway.

Place is located at the bottom of the Sutter-Stockton garage one block from Union Square. Classy interior, more restaurant than brewpub. Excellent beers, good selection, great food. Perfect place for dinner if you're planning an evening out in downtown SF.

Located just a few blocks from Union Square, this smart-looking establishment should be described more as a restaurant which makes its own craft beers than a brewpub featuring good food. Cuisine leans toward Southeast Asian/Indian and tasted just as delicious as it described on the menu. Kudos to any "beer joint" which determines glassware according to beer style, although it looked as if they might have served their ale in a pilsner glass (hmmm...) To top it off, the prices were very reasonable in respect to the quality and effort visibly seen throughout. A definite stop for anyone unable to resist all things epicurean!
