For anyone that hasn't been (or revisited) Buzzards Bay Brewing, it's worth a (another) look. There have been some changes, in personnel and direction, over the past year and a half. New blood. New beer styles. New energy.
Lager has been retooled and is a very smooth German lager with a nice noble hop presence. Not hoppy enough for ya? Grab their new flagship Czech Pilsner - a good rendition of the Bohemian classic, loaded with Saaz hops - and with their hopback up and running, the dryhopped aroma should only improve with each batch.
Pale Ale has been dialed back from the chewy English Pale Ale it was to be a more sessionable brew, where the Kent Goldings hops are able to shine through. This isn't Chico, CA and it isn't an American Pale Ale. Nice beer for what it is.
Black Lager is roasty, yet smooth with an earthy bitterness from the Bramling Cross hops. If you liked their old West Porter, give this new one a try.
Other limited batches have included a Weizen Doppelbock, unique hoppy Hefeweizen and the forthcoming Altbier and Rauchbier.
Like I said, new blood, new beers, new energy. $6 growler fills are a steal, and the new Growler Club Card is a great way to reward their regulars (Buy 10, get your next fill free). Already working on my second card.
I am in agreement that the Buzzards Bay of old was a bit staid in their offerings. To their credit, they recognized this, have listened to the feedback and seem to be succeeding in giving customers what they want.
Cheers!

This beer has the trademark of all sub-par micros, a similar after-taste in all of their selections. The Porter and the Lager tasted more alike each other than they did like top versions from other brewers. I thought it was Sam Adams re-labled, for pete's sake. Actually, Sams still produces a couple decent beers, at least in comparison with this let-down of a 12-pack sampler. In response to the Sierra fan--I agree Sierra is hard to top in any of their choices, but plenty of east coast brewers do an excellent Pale ale, foremost among them in my book is Gearys, out of Portland, Maine. And Pale ale, while their original, is not even their best--their Hampshire is one of my five favorite beers, if not three. And their Summer ale is excellent, if you like something that light.

I hope they make good on their stated intention of growing hops and barley on the premises! This place is owned by vintnors and is located nearby. Nice logo. The beer is good and the selection will be increased. Good luck folks.

I am spoiled with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. The Buzzard's Bay Pale Ale is nowhere close to being a good pale ale. If you want to try a good pale ale, Go West young man!

Got a bad batch of Buzzard- beer appeared to be overcarbonated. Good first experience, bad second.

Have discovered a GREAT Pale Ale - Old Buzzard Pale Ale. Had it in bottles at the Mattapoisett Inn in Mattapoisett, MA< and on draft at Lindsey's over in Buzzards Bay, MA. This should not be missed - what a surprise!!
Cheers!

This is not a brewpub and is not open to the public. Do not drop by to say hello. They have only one style out right now, a pale ale, and it is very good.
