Rocky River Brewery was bought out by Rocky River Grill by the Collier Restaurant Group. They just recently sold Rocky River Grill building and have closed the restaurant completely. So Rocky River no longer exists.

The owners bankrupted in the fall of 2003 and the property was assumed by a local restaurant group. The new owners permanently closed the brewery operation in January 2004. Rocky River Brewing Company is extinct. Rocky River Grill remains, but all of the brewery equipment has been sold off and removed. The restaurant now serves only national brands.

The new owners of the Rocky River Brewing Co. have closed the brewery. The restaurant, Rocky River Grill, will remain open, but will no longer serve its own beers.

Visited week after 4th of July, mid afternoon during shift change. Bartender/pizza maker had his hand full, but still made a great effort. Golden lager very good, Ten Point good but a little hoppy for me.

Recently got called out on my last review of RR B&G. Since then, I had returned (Jan 03) for a much anticipated visit. The last time I was there, the Hefe was GREAT. This time, it tasted like I imagine a wet diaper would taste. Extremely sour and acidic. Unfortunately, I found this out after I bought two party pigs ($80). We choked the first one down and just couldn't stomach any more...poured the second one out. Don't know what happened...I recently tasted it again at the Music City Brewers Fest in Nashville. It was as bad, if not worse. Almost as if a large portion of sauer malt made it's way into the mash. Anyway, the Hefe was a huge disappointment, but most of the other beers were above average. (More hops in the IPA, PLEASE!)

My wife and I were at your resturant on Aug 1st. 2003. We were there to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary. When we walked in there was no servers at the front area. This was about 5:15pm. Finnally someone came and we asked for a seat for two in the smoking section. She said we could find our own seat in the bar area. We walked back to the bar area and found a booth and sat down. About 15 minutes had passed and I said let's go someplace else. I got up to leave and was half way across the floor when a waitress cme with the menus. By this time I was really mad but decided to stay. About another 15 minutes she came back to take our order. We were there over a half hour and all we had was a glass of water and my wife had a coke. I planned to get a glass of your beer with my meal. After a total of more than an hour we finnaly got our salad. When we got our meal it wan't even our waitress that brought it. She never did come back to see if we needed anything. I never got my beer. The waitress was a tall gal with a tatoo on her upper arm, don;t know her name, she never told us. Needless to say our was a total disaster. I am a local from Blount county , but you will never see me in your establishment again. As far as I'm concerned you can close your doors and we would not miss you. By the way the food was good. it's a shame.

Walking into the Rocky River brewpub I couldn't help but think of Moe's Family Feed Bag. Sun glasses on an alligator? What ever. You can't really blame the designers. How else can you compete with a three story go kart track and a Fuddruckers.

i have to agree with wendell. top notch beer accross the boards. my fav was the pilsner. this is THE place to go when youre headed to and from smokey national park, especially when youve been on the trail for a few days. aside from the great beer the guys who make the beer are super cool. i was treated to a very informative tour of their awesome high tech brewing facility. they answered any and all questions i had and were not high and mighty like so many brewers ive met.conclusion: fifteen stars, ten thumbs up, four green clovers and one yellow moon.

I went for lunch. Not just did the bartender serve my beer, he also made my pizza by hand, cooked it in a wood burning oven, and chopped the wood for the oven! Yes, he did wash his hands before making my pizza. When trying the Hefe wheat the first thing that came to mind was "sour". I exchanged it for a brown lager that was OK, but lacked any real flavor. I'd return for the great food and character of the place, but the beer needs some major work.

If you must be stuck in tourist hell this is one location in which you can seek refuge. Best enjoyed off season, it is the flagship of the East Tennesee Brewpub scene. Brewmaster Ron Downer knows his stuff and the sampler runs the entire style range. It's big - has to be to accomodate the summer crowds, but remember that in a tourist area you have to make a living in three months of the year, so is somewhat empty most of the year, when I find it best to go. You'll find a good selection of food there to go with Ron's great beers, although a vegetarian will find less variety than the rest of us. All of Ron's brews are available to go in a Party Pig so you can enjoy it fresh at home as well.

Ron Downer is a brilliant brewer. When you read pubcrawler comments, don't expect much in the way of informed opinions (on the average). Most folks do not understand what it takes to make great beer on a large scale, and keep within the local ABV regs. Although this place is a bit on the humongous side, the selection and quality of these beers is outstanding. The Hefe and Porter were my favorites (even picked up a party pig of Hefe). The only thing remotely lacking (for me) was the hop levels in the MW IPA. I wish Ron's beers were available here in HSV! Rocket City Brewers!!

First time I've ever walked into a brewpub only to be told that they don't serve beer. Don't go on an election day (August 1 was a primary day), as local law prohibits the sale of alcohol while the polls are open. Nice selection of brews, from light to stout. The bartender was nice, and sadly amused by his fate - he gave me a free coke as a consolation prize. The place is big, but not unpleasant. I'll try again the next time I am in the area, but the area is pretty awful, so that might not be soon.

The pub is big and roomy as it was built around the original brewery. I did not go into the sportsbar as I was very satisfied on the pub rail. The bartender, David W., was very knowledgable about the beers and the styles adn very accomidating. I would say that Ron Downer doesn't hop his beers to the extreme, but they were all very well made and malty. The stout was outstanding and I especially enjoyed the alt and the IPA. His seasonals were getting a bit aged, but still they were very appealing. I enjoyed the fact that you could buy party pigs to go.
I recommend this brewpub and especially the stout. Excellent.

the rocky river probably has too many inherent obstacles to overcome to ever become a truly great pub. it sits in the heart of hell (some call it pigeon forge) and is forced to compete for business with tgifriday, a gargantuan mr gattis, and a fuddrucker's (hehe). consequently, the interior of the building is cavernous and uninviting for those who cherish the intimate and cozy beer experience. the selection and quality of brews is comparable with any around, but any flaws are magnified in the reflected light of the gleaming nascar themed amusement park across the street. though the rocky river tries desperately to be something greater, it will likely never be anything more than a quaint dining experience for a family that might not otherwise step foot into a pub. if you do find yourself trapped in pigeon forge (and pray that you don't) stop by for lunch and tip your server well; god knows they're trying.

i am sorry to say i was not happy! the best thing i can say about rocky river is that the silverware was clean. our waitress was very friendly and very incompetent. we were slow to be seated(the place was only about one tenth full maybe less)and even slower to be served. the food was so so and way over priced. i suggest going somewhere else

This huge brewpub sits along "restaurant row" among the outlets. The glass-enclosed brewery sits in the center of a rustic themed restaurant. Of the 6 beers on draft, only the IPA and Stout were even average. The Copperhead Red and Hefeweizen tasted very unusual, as though they were missing an ingredient. Even though the beers were disappointing, the food and service were excellent. The quality and portions were terrific, especially for lunch. Go for the food, but don't expect much from the beer.

The atmosphere along with the wonderful craft brewed beers made this my favorite stop in the Tennessee foothills. The beer sampler was fabulous. It was brought out in pilsner style glasses each with its own styled logo. The beers were so fresh, and they actually had a fair amount of hops! A must see, eat, and drink!

My third trip to this jewel in the mountains and I was not disapointed. The oven at the bar adds to a friendly warm atmosphere. The staff were all polite and helpful with out being pushy, they seemed to be genuinely friendly people.
Prices are reasonable and the selection varies just enough from trip to trip to ensure a new treat. I did weep a little when I found they were out a their Scottish Brew with absolutely butt kicking effect.
