THE THING THAT STANDS OUT ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THE AMBER COLORED OFFERING FROM THE BAR. WAS IT AN ALE OR LAGER?...I DON'T REMEMBER AND I CAN'T READ FRENCH. NONE OF THE CANADIAN BEERS REALLY WERE VERY BITTER OR HOPPY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BRUTOPIA'S IPA. I DO REMEMBER THIS BEER BEING OUTSTANDING.

My trip to Montreals Mondiale de le Biere Festival provided me another chance to visit this impressive brewpub on rue St-Denis in the Latin Quarter. If there was one place that could tempt me away from the festival, this is the place (to quote Brigham Young).
Like many places in Montreal, LAmere a Boire is multi-leveled, with a small sidewalk terrace, a few tables by the large front windows; downstairs are more tables and a very small bar arent they all? Another, but longer, flight of stairs leads to additional room.
LAmere a Boire offers a diverse selection of fresh craft beers. I loved the beer menu, a great indicator of the passion for their beers. Nothing says refreshing like their Cerna Hora, a 5% (ABV) Czech-style pilsner that brought me back to Prague; after a long day of seeing the many sights of Montreal, this one goes down real well. During my visit LAmere a Boire had nine beers on tap; in addition to the above, I enjoyed:
1.Maibock German Lager - 6.4 ABV (Upcoming Review) 2.Drak, a dark Czech pilsner - 5.8 ABV 3.Odense Porter, a dark lager - 5.0 ABV 4.Boucanier, an English porter - 5.0 ABV (See Review) 5.Imperial Stout - 7.5 ABV
The pricing is unique in that the price of a pint increases throughout the day; for example a beer costs $4.00 until 5:00 pm, after which the price increases to $4.50 until 8:00 pm, when a beer costs $5.25. If timed right, you can drink very cheaply - or at least comparatively so. They dont serve food until 4:00pm.
I would definitely return here; in fact, Id say that LAmere a Boire is my favorite brewpub in Montreal and yes!, that means I liked it better than Dieu de Ciel! Whats more, a short walk down rue St-Denis and left on rue Ontario brings you to Le Cheval Blanc. --

Hasn't changed much since the last visit. Had the Rousse, Porter and Imperial Stout. The stout was my favorite but the other two were also exceptional beers. For a Saturday night the place was crowded and service was excellent.

Nice little place on St. Denis. Not a quaint smoky pub, but a nice 'loft-ish atmosphere. There were 8 samplings on tap tonight - a blanche, a Czech blonde (fantastic), 3 reds, & 3 porters / stouts. All of the samples were good, the Czech style blonde & red were excellent.
Food wise, the menu isn't huge. The fries are top-notch though with a nice cajun mayo. The burger was standard.
Service was very cool.

liked the Cerna Hora so much that I got stuck on it. Excellent Czech Pilsner. The brewer has done a great job with it.

Walked into here with decent expectations. Had heard a lot about the place and had yet not been ( despite it being in my own city ). The Beers here were AWESOME. There was only the smoke dporter on CASK that wasn't so great, but the other 6-7 beers they have were delicious. I particularly recommend teh KOZAK ( Czech Porter ) and the Imperial Stout. Wonderful stuff!

It was nice to find chili and chorizo in quebec. As for the beers, they are certainly ambitious with a whole bunch of beers on tap. their quality is inconsistent. the imperial stout and wit were probably the best, the namesake pale close behind.

While no beers from Montral really stood up to anything in the US, I think these guys are on track to make some of the best in Montreal-at least...but nothing was as good as the Unibroue line.

This seemed quite a nice place, but the beers were a little underwhelming to me given the hype it's gotten. Above average on the whole, for sure, but I wasn't truly impressed by any; the bock and Imperial stout were pretty good, and nothing was terrible, though the porter was one of the weakest of the style I've sampled. Well-lit, busy but not really crowded, less smoky than many other Montreal pubs; nice looking menu. I had the chili which was pretty good but don't feel comfortable rating the food just on that. I will definitely return; have the feeling I might be more generous next time. Very near to both Trois Brasseurs and Cheval Blanc, the latter of which should also be tried. Oh, and "Bill" from 2000, at this point in Spring '03 any brewpub that's really worth anything can do an Imperial Stout if it wants to, so I don't think that means much anymore.

This was our 2nd trip hereand it was better than the last very good selection of beer & very nice place somewhat like Europe. The bartender was as much of a pro as you can be, he should be working in N.Y.C. Looking forward to going back....

It really makes a difference when you drink one of the beers that they produce, because you can't enjoy normal beer anymore after. I liked this place soo much that I moved near it two years ago!

Second trip here and the beers were as good or better as they were 2 years ago. The stout was still the best even though it was about 100 degrees while we were in montreal this year. This is definitely worth a trip to.

A great place to sit and enjoy some fine lagers and ales. A very delicious stout was on tap along with a pale ale.

Most of the beers here are on the lighter side-Euro lagers and pils though perfectly good. Place is nice and clean (if not a bit antiseptic) and staff is friendly.

My favorite pub in Montreal. The beer is outstanding - the staff is always very friendly (esp. the owner/brewmaster - Rene? I think is is his name, helluva guy anyway - tho I worry about my wife running off with him, lol) - one of the few places I've been in that neighborhood where they treat you nicely even if you don't speak French.
The bar does get terribly smoky after about 9pm on Fri & Sat - so if you're smoke averse go early.
They have a revolving cast of beers - been in here a dozen times - had 20 different beers and can honestly say I haven't had a bad one. Last spring they had a great Marzen.

Merely brewing an imperial stout makes this place OK in my book. It was rich and smooth. However, the pale ale was truly outstanding...buttery and delicious. Only 5 on tap, so they could increase their range a little.
