Sadly, Bush House has burned to the ground. A major fire destroyed the building housing this establishment on February 8th, 2006

Great Great N/A Great Great
Ok so I didn't make it in time for Schnitzel's .. turns out that they close at 11pm on Saturdays... I arrived at 11:05 while wandering through through the darkness of Pennsylvania's wilderness :)

I did stop though at the bar upstairs from Schnitzel's called Danny's (?)... I believe the same people own both places...

Danny's had a suprisingly good beer selection that included both quality imports as well as Pennsylvania microbrews like Penn Brewery.

The interior atmosphere was a well kept old fashioned lots of wood type thing... I pool table takes up about 20% of the places space... It actually worked nicely here...

A local folk type artists picked along at a respectful level... providing some soothing background noise...

The place was packed (seating is probably about 40-50 maximum)... The local were friendly...

Definitely a neat place... There is a picturesque park across the street and another interesting restaurant right around the corner....

Awesome! Great Great So So Great
An often overlooked place nestled about 10 miles from Penn State, Schnitzels is a cozy little place that serves authentic german fare. So authentic, in fact, that some are put off a bit by that fact. In any case, the beer selection is good, and although it's mostly limited to german beers this is not a bad thing! The service, however was poor and slow. Overall though, it's a refreshing little tavern in a picturesque town.

Schnitzel's was recommended to us by another beer writer, John Hall: good call! We drove up from State College through pretty country and found the place easily. The outside cafe area right on the creek was very nice, but just a bit too hot that afternoon, so we went inside. Service was a bit bollixed due to a missing waitress, but it got straightened out after a bit. Schnitzel's is (duh!) a German place, and I got no further on beer selection than the draft Kostritzer Schwarzbier: excellent! So was our smoked trout appetizer with whipped cream horseradish sauce, and our entrees: I had weisswurst with German potato salad that was deliciously light, my wife had sauerbraten (the only down point, it was a bit tough, as if it had not been marinated long enough) and the best spaetzel I've ever had in 20 years of loving German food. Wish we'd had time for dessert!
