The beer in general is pretty average. The lighter beers are pretty hoppy. If you like your pales and ales that way you'll like Rock Bottom. The Kolsch is well.. something that reminded me of Kolsch but nothing like what you'll find in western Germany. A good attempt though. Probably the most unremarkable beer is the brown. I just don't have anything to say about it other than yes it is brown, and yes it does look like beer, and yes it starts out with a taste like a beer but you expect more and it never delivers. As far as defining characteristics there really are none. The octoberfest was fair, but not distinguished and Sam Adams has an octoberfest that's much better at a much lower cost. The Stout was also just ok. I think the brewer here is a hop-head and likes his hoppy beers. Those he seemed to do fairly well with. The rest.... well they are there, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. On a side note the seasonal hefe was very flavorful with hints of fruits in the pallet, although the bouquet was horrible. The food was ok as well. Nothing special, but not bad either. The service was Excellent. Brian hooked me up with a sampler of the beers and was prompt courteous and quick to answer questions.

It has been a long time since I was here, so I don't want to go overboard on the rating(just in case). However, I can say in all honesty that the brew here is worth a try. I was surprised when I discovered Rock Bottom to be a chain. Do not let this fact keep you from visiting. If you're in the D.C. area,.. try it.

Once again I am pleasantly surprised by a chain brewpub. The service was outstanding, and I went out of my way to tell the manager. This brewpub had 4 "regular" brews and 4 seasonals. I had the ESB which was absolutely fantastic, as well as the coffee porter which was on a hand pump. My wife tried the Rye Ale - which was a fairly hoppy red ale on a high pressure pour (a la Guiness/Cafferey's) - THAT was a great beer. The food was great as well. This may be the best brewpub in the DC area.
Rockbottom brewpubs never seem to disappoint. I wish they would open one on Long Island or in NYC.

The beer is much better than Capitol City Brewery's. The food is, too. Bartenders are friendly and attentive.
The $1 pints on Wed. night are simply the area's best happy hour deal. Unfortunately, everyone knows about it, so prepare for a hot, sweaty mob scene if you stay past 6. Great place to go at any other time.

The beer assessments below are accurate. Bartenders are excellent. Waitstaff is mixed depending on the size of the crowd. Which brings me to the main sticking point - this place gets absolutely mobbed Wed. through Sat. nights starting at about 6. Be prepared.

The food is okay, but I found the beer to be dull and uninspired. The service was horrid, even for a Friday night. We never got our appetizer, our food was cold, and our server forgot about us. I used to think the restaurant was fair, and I could tolerate the beer, but no more. I'll stick to Capitol City Brewery in Shirlington!

Most of the comments below are on target. The beer is well made and very drinkable. What no one mentioned is the $1 pint action on Wednesday eves. Even the crush is enjoyable with that kind of lubrication. Check it out!

I love to go and eat 8 plates wings on Thursday nights. I also enjoy throwing down a couple pitchers of their hand-crafted root beer.

This Rock Bottom has the typical corporate lineup of standard beers, average in quality but consistent. Seasonals were better, a saison served in the correct glass wouldn't impress a Belgian but was nice for a change. Hand pump served red and porter, both very good.

This is somewhat of a biased review since I consider Rock Bottom to be somewhat of a livingroom of mine, living only one block away. Truly though, the beer is simply great. Each one is distinctive and represent their respective types as well as any large brewpub I enjoyed. I also find the barstaff at Rock Bottom to be second to absolutely no one. These folks are all great, and always smile when they see you coming. Often a beer will already be poured for me when I sit down at the bar. The bartenders are also very receptive when I ask them to play pranks on friends of mine. Great times for sure.

With some trepidation I went there with a group of twelve. We had pitchers of the stout, red ale (I did not have this), and the pale ale. The porter was OK, but a bit on the light flavored side with a slight lactic tang, a bit of malt, and some astringency in the finish. The Potomac Pale was certainly a surprise after the porter - good hop flavor and floral hoppy aroma, could use a bit of tweaking but otherwise a good Americal Pale. A great beer.
I had the burger, and that was plenty enough. Good, but pricey. Indeed you do not feel like you are in a mall establishment.

A thin, somewhat bland Pale Ale and an unimpressive Porter. It tastes like a yuppified microbrewery that would be in a mall, which it is. Nothing special about the beer at all and the food certainly wasn't anything exceptional. Unfortunately, a good brewpub is a rare thing in Northern Virginia. Rock Bottom doesn't do anything special, least of all the beer.

Like the rest of the chain--not bad for a chain, dagnabbit, but still suffering from the same problems of a chain. Odd mall setting works. Although my experience and the porter was great, what am I supposed to think of a place that would put the light beer on handpump (1 of 2), and had quite a bit of the pub grub (soft pretzels, burgers) being left behind by patrons?

Rock Bottom has a good selection of beer, so that everyone should be able to find a favorite. Although the first offering of beers were not very challenging, all of the beers were quite pleasurable and true to the specified style. Appears to be the hot new meeting place for Arlington's plethora of young professionals...

Not bad for a chain. The Radio Tower Red was a little mild for my taste but better than almost any restaurant. Beer snobs(myself included) this is a starter brew-pub so keep it in perspective. So far it is very popular.

The porter had a vanilla taste to it, the flavor hung in my mouth a long time like it was an extract. I am glad to hear all the Rock Bottoms have different beers, too bad this one didn't have cask ale like the one in Bethesda. I will eat some food next time.

Obviously packed since it is brand new and probably working out some kinks as a result but had a very good bartender in spite of the madness. The range of beers was good but no attention grabbers just yet. The first seasonals were not ready yet when I was there.
