Sadly, Maplewood has closed. I have no further details. (I got that info from Dan, the brewer, now at Opa Opa in Southampton, MA, so it's reliable.)

A great line up of beers, ales. Try the Amethyst or FatDog.

nothing impressive beer-wise, though it is not your run-of-the-mill brewpub. It is more of a farm-stand restaurant. I guess if you are passing thru Amherst and are thirsty it can't hurt to stop.

well, it is certainly not your run-of-the-mill brewpub, as it is part of an organic farm. There were something like 9 beer choices, I had the sampler and all were perfectly good--nothing really outstanding, nothing bad.

A unique mix of restaurant, brewpub, and organic vegetable market...but it works perfectly. We didn't have time to sample the food...or the vegetables...because we were busy trying as many of the 16 (!) beers. The IPA and Porter were outstanding, the bartender Steve was friendly (although it was his last weekend), and the peanuts at the bar were appreciated. Clearly the best brewpub in the Pioneer Valley!

The brewers here do seem to believe in the classical styles. Typically they have 8-12 of their beers on tap and they are all true to the stated style. Last visit, I drank or tasted the Vienna lager, the IPA, the basil beer (excellent rendition of an uncommon historical style), and the milk stout. (I've had most of their beers at one time or another.) Service is always very good and the food is excellent. Strongly recommended if you're coming through the area.

Maplewood opened in March, 2000, and promises to be a winner. Their Hop Brook IPA is the best IPA I've had in a long time! Full-bodied, strong, and hoppy. We had dinner there on a busy Saturday night of a holiday weekend. The service was very good for the circumstances, the food was delicious, and the portions were huge.
