They've announced that 1/27/08 will be the date of the last 'last call'. This is from Dr. Dremo's website:
"Dr Dremo's will close the doors at the current location on Sunday, Jan 27th, 2 AM."

I have just learned from their website that Dr. Dremo's will be closing in the near future. Apparently, Arlington was in need of more development, so Dremo's location will be razed to accommodate this need. Greedy developers win again - the irony will come when this property remains 75% vacant due to overdevelopment. Enjoy this great beer bar while you can. I believe they now offer Bell's Amber.

This is my 2nd update (3rd review). I've been going regularly for happy hour (free pool) since they closed and then reopened in '03. Hadn't tried the food in a while, until the other day when I had a chicken wrap and my friend had a cheeseburger. Since this is Pubcrawler and not Foodcrawler I won't get into details, but I'll just say both were a pleasant surprise, and better than other places who are supposedly known for their good pub grub.
As for the beer, this time around I was drinking a Victory IPA. I went back for another one and the bartender suggested a Dogfish. Excellent suggestion, and showed they not only know what they're talking about, but they appreciate customers who do too.
Dr. Dremo's has been pretty well packed on weekend nights for almost 2 years now, so I guess everyone has finally discovered it. Thankfully the unique and non-pretentious atmosphere remains.

Made my first visit recently. Doesn't look like much from the outside, and it doesn't improve much on the inside, but that actually adds to the charm. 32 beers on tap, nice selection, and the bartenders seemed to know and care that they are serving good beer.

I decided to take a trip down the rabbit hole and visit one of my favorite haunts of the mid '90s. Bardo Rodeo was like a constant frat party; lot's of young folks whooping it up, fueled by a very decent selction of beer dispensed through 100 taps or so. There even was the permanent faint odor of stale, spilled beer to add to the authenticity. I was in the neighborhood this week so I thought I would stop in to see the latest incarnation. Aside from being the oldest person in the bar, and there was a decent crowd for a Monday night, it was much as I recall. Shenandoah still makes the 7 house beers which start at $4/pint and go up from there. I tried the Mountain Beast Ale and the Porter. Both had off tastes; given some of the reviews below, I'm not sure if it was the beer or the dispense system. When I saw the serve pour a small amount of the porter, then sniff it; I should have got the message right there. I suspect both beers could have been pretty good in the best possible circumstances. Given the amount of American Industrial Light beer being served, i'm not too sure many patrons will care. I had a black bean quesadilla that was pretty good, I was certainly hungry. Anyway, this is a facility that has the heritage and the capability to climb back into the upper echelons. Hopefully, they'll do it. Worth keeping an eye on.

The interesting cross between a beer bar and a brewpub (with house contract beers) finally redeems itself. Retains the funk and eclectic decor of the old Bardo Rodeo with a decent selection of beer and food.

Went for the first time recently with great expectations. Funky atmosphere (love those glowing old Grundys), spacious, good music. But the bartenders were too busy watching The Simpsons to tend much to their fairly empty bar. The Youngs tasted bad - harshly stale - as if it had sat in a warm line for awhile. Disappointing. I'll try again.

Just three words: Chimay On Tap. I love the Brickskeller, but Dr. Dremo is an excellent, casual beer bar with great selections and IMHO the best burgers around. If you can just get used to the abandoned warehouse decor and the minimalist ambience, you can be best prepared for an evening (it opens at 5pm) of great beers!

To update my last post, I've been coming here on a semi-weekly basis and am amazed that the place is still not more popular. The beer selection is one of the best in the area. The atmosphere is by far my favorite of any Arlington bar - it's basically a hip, stylish pool hall with an excellent jukebox.
No problem, though - I'm happy to have the place to myself.

Nice beer selection including three beers contract brewed by Shenandoah. These beers (Barleywine, Rocking Rye, Organic Light) were decent but not great. Among the taps were Chimay Cinq Cents, Celebration, Hop Devil, Hop Pocket, Arrogant Bastard, DeGroen Marzen, Spaten O'Fest. The bar is easily accessible from the Metro.

Dr. Dremo's no longer sells any Bardo beers because of a family feud, so it's turned into more of a multi-tap pool hall.

Dr. Dremo's serves Bardo beer, so check the reviews for Bardo Rodeo for more about the beer. The food is excellent, with a few unique items on the menu. Not much of a bargain, though, which is typical for Arlington. Funky atmosphere and decor - I like it. Free pool at happy hour. I've been coming here a lot recently, and wonder why it's not more popular. Not a place to go if you're looking for a "scene" - more like a place to hang out with your friends, shoot some pool, and have some good beer.
