First of all I orderd a point fermin ale when i got it i could smell mildew so i orderd a new one and that glass still smelled like mildew. So i ordered a st pauli girl in the bottle & that was fine. Then I ordered the santa maria style tri tip, the worst tri tip ever ive had better carne asada off the taco truck. The tri tip was like beef jerkey. And last but not least. I got my bill and paid with my card signed for it, crossed out the tip part and left a cash money tip on the table. The next day i checked my bank account and saw that san pedro brew co had added in more money to the bill with out my consent. I'll neaver go back. I'll just stick to bostons or bj's

This is a pretty nice little brewpub in an old historic building in downtown San Pedro. We went with the daily specials of fish and shrimp tacos, which were quite good. The beers that I tried were solid. I opted for the Shanghai Red, an aromatic malty ale, and a special IPA that was on the chalkboard.

Fun and friendly place. Outdoor seating available. Had a 1/2 order of their fries, very good. Had 7 beers on the sampler, I was a bit confused with the sampler presentation, 7 glasses on the bar. Had to ask the bartenter twice what I was drinking. It was difficult to keep them all straight. The Pale Ale was a little mild for me as were the rest of the beers. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. If you're in San Pedro give them a try.

I was in San Pedro on business found the SPBC on pubcrawler.com--and am so glad I did. Gary Merten, GM/partner of the brewery was behind the bar when I sat down. I ordered their Pale Ale and it was superb--so much so that I drank it the rest of the time there so I didn't sample the others. Fire-grilled Tri-tip Sandwich was just as good. So beer and food were excellent which would be enough but the service, conversation and true hospitality from Gary made the night. Great prices for LA was a bonus. A true gem. I'll be back. Thanks Gary!

Gonna buck the overall trend here. Given all the positive reviews I visited SPBC with high anticipation. And walked away a little disappointed.
First, they have four beers on their everyday menu -- Hefewezen, Bitter, Pale Ale and Red Ale. The day I visited (6/5/05) they were out of both the hefe and the Bitter -- sadly the two in which I was most interested. Said differently, they were out of half of their everyday offerings! Something's not right there. Additionally, they had a Dunkel. interesting that teh last poster also noted they were out of the Bitter. There seems to be poor planning on somebody's part.
I first tried the Pale Ale. It was nice, with mild hoppy finish, but reasonably well balanced with malt. Made me wonder how differ it was from the Bitter. Not very experienced with Dunkels, so I'll withhold my comments on it.
I had the grilled salmon sandwich, which includes grilled vegatables and pesto aoli on sourdough bread, and a side of cole slaw. The sandwich was tasty. With the grilled veggies, it was a reasonably healthy offering (somewhat offset by the aoli, which I'm sure you could get on the side). The slaw was respectable, but not as tangy as I like.
As for the service, it was confusing. There were two people that seemed to be serving the limited outside area I chose and both worked all the tables. One was slow-to-indifferent and one was attentive and quick without hovering. Had to flag one down to order food, but he was very accomodating when I did. So, like most places, it depends on the server -- clearly no consistency.

Great beers, if a small selection - out of the Bitter when I was in, but tried the Hefe, Pale and Red. Hefe was great (wish it had been warmer out, to really enjoy it), but the pale and red were fairly similar in character - As a true hop-head, the Pale could have used more...
Food was good, and certainly better than most bar food. Several good fish dishes in addition to the standard burger fare.
Very nice atmosphere - comfy seats, not too loud and an outdoor area as well for better weather.
Would go back, certainly.

The Beers are perfect for a MicroBrew. They may not always have what your looking for in stock. The Hefewiez was out the 1st time I went and the Dark was out the 2nd time.
The food is delicious and way better then most bar food I have eaten. They still need something more original that stands out and makes you want to try it on the menu, something unique.
The Service and customers are great. The Bartenders are very friendly. The waitresses are quiet but thier looks make up for it. Seems like they only hire Hotties. You can always find someone to strike up a conversation with.
The Atmosphere is great. Old tavern look with tables and patio outside for smokers.
This place is definatly hang out worthy. Wished closer to the beach in the sun.

There is not a single item on the menu that I've tried and didn't love. The seared ahi sandwich is to die for and the tri-tip is the absolute best I've ever had. The red ale is rich and full and reminds me a a more flavorful "Sam Adams Boston Lager". Lawrence makes a mean "Irish Car Bomb" as well. My favorite place...a Friday regular!!! You will not be disappointed.

Stopped by on Sunday afternoon. Had a sandwich (smoked turkey) and sampled the beer. The pale was a standard California style pale, not overly hopped with a malty finish. The Hefe had a decided clove flavor and I liked it! The brewer was in and we had a nice chat. The Hefe yeast is coming from Munich and the grain bill results in a lighter Hefe. very tasty on a warm day. The brewer also brews at Alpine Village in Torrance and brings some of that product over in kegs. San Pedro is worth a visit: Good food, good beer, and a good brew crew behind the bar!

The Pale ale is very good. Full bar. Good Burgers (that's all I've had), and the other food looks real good. The place sports a lot of dark wood and San Pedro history. Tasteful. Reminds me of some northern CA brewpubs. It's small, but not too small, and cozy. The service is ok. The place is better than you might expect.

STOPED BY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FEBUARY THEY DID NOT HAVE A STOUT OF THERE OWN ON TAP. BUT THEY HAD GUINNESS SO THAT MADE UP FOR THE TRIP. WHEN ONE VISITS A BREW PUB THEY EXPECT A STOUT OR PORTER. STOUT IS NOT A SEASONAL BEER IT IS YEAR ROUND. FOOD WAS GOOD.

The bar and seating area are very cozy and the atmosphere is excellent. The staff knows their beer and the chef obviously takes great pride in the food preparation. San Pedro is easy to find and worth a visit, even if only for lunch.

I haven't found anything on the menu that I don't like. Beer and Food included. Service is great and once they get their brew machines kicking (Early - Mid Jan '02) this place will be THE place to be in San Pedro.
