As a former restaurant owner, I've eatn at the double wide on at least five occasions,I found the food which is scratch cooking by the way, reasonable for the price...and my service has always been OUTSTANDING, maybe you got an off day or something happened but, I have never had a bad experience here, and will continue to go, they have only been open a few months I'm sure the kinks will be worked out it sometimes takes new restaurants a few years to do it...and by the volume of guests they are doing, I'm sure they have alot of kinks to take care of, but certinly they put out a good product at a fair price.

I was so frustrated by today's lunch at the Double Wide that I had to take time to troll the web looking for avenues to vent my disappointment. The service was deplorable. Our hostess was disinterested and ineffective, our server was pleasant (for the 30 seconds that he spent with us) but was unable to get our order right, and the food was actually terrible. Some was underdone, some was overdone, and the sandwich I ordered did not contain all that was promised. The thin sandwich bread was not unlike melba toast. Beyond the offensive theme, I was thoroughly frustrated to have to pay for such a poor experience.

Beer selection is good. Everything else about this place is terrible--servers are surly and rude; food is barely tolerable; happy hour specials are a sham. It is another of those soft south side bars where it is more important to be seen than to dine well. I have gone a handful of times and each time I vow to never go back. Overpriced and the customer is under-appreciated. So Brutal!

As mentioned before, not much adventurous on tap....Thirsty Dog Siberian Night, the Green Flash IPA and Nut Brown, a Great Lakes seasonal (Conway's Irish), etc. Beer quality was good - tasted fresh and clean and the bar seemed like a pretty cool place - old garage setting and all. Prices were on the average to high side - $4+ per beer. Still, nothing to leave Fatheads, Smokin Joes, or Pipers Pub for. My wife and I stopped in today for a late lunch at 3:30pm or so, we were handed the menu and it said 'Brunch' on the menu. I asked the waitress if this was the right menu ("All you have is Brunch?), since I figured Brunch was usually a late breakfast/early lunch thing, and I noticed the menu contained omelettes and other breakfast type meals (Eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, etc). She replied 'Yes', but her reaction was as if I had asked the most ridiculous question. They did have a small 3-4 item menu with beef burger, pork sandwich and two other items, but nothing great - my wife would've wanted a salad or grilled chicken sandwich, but no such luck. Anyway, about half an hour later, we found that a different menu was being handed out and it was their dinner menu. The waitress thought nothing to mention to us that we could've waited a little bit and had some real mid-afternoon food!

The selection of drafts is better than it has to be, but certainly not enough to make this a destination for beer lovers, especially with other bars just down the street like Smokin Joes and fatheads. The most adventerous tap was Maudite.
The food was really disappointing. Mostly fried stuff, and the ribs were really tasteless but covered in sauce. This is not quite comfort cooking, but the menu kind of tells you what to expect.

had lunch at the double wide grill for the first time.. really neat place. gas station converted to a bar/restaurant. tools and auto parts make up the decor. staff wears mechanic looking shirts. 25+ beers on tap from troeges, great divide, bells, dogfish head etc. i had the atwater vanilla java porter, never heard of it before, tasted good if you like coffee. had a double wide house salad that came out crisp and green with avacado sliced. also had vegetarian hot wings w/ celery & carrot sticks. both owners visible most of the time i was there. highly recommend trying this place.

A relatively new resturant striving to offer a reasonable selection of microbrews. We tried it based on a recent review in the pittsburgh paper:
http://postgazette.com/pg/07011/752677-242.stm
The most adventurous selection was unibrue Maudite. They had an east end and penn st. nicholas bock as well. There were a couple of beers that were worth drinking, but this is definetly not a destination beer bar. We found the food very "so-so". Lots of fried stuff. The crab cake was ok, the ribs were tasteless, but covered in sauce. Potato disks were fried and tasted stale.
There are much better food / beer options within a few blocks of this location. We won't go back.
