Located in Hermann, the heart of Missouri wine country, the Tin Mill is closely connected to the Hermannhof Winery.
The brewery is in an old mill that has been lovingly converted. The brewing equipment is brand new and a self guided tour allows one to follow the brewing process.
As one would expect from a brewery in the "Missouri Rhineland", their five beers were all German in style. The best was a new launched Skyscraper Pilsner. It had a nice clean taste with a bit of hop bite. The other beers lagged. Their normal pilsner and their dopplebock were ok, but nothing to write home about. The Maibock was thin and rather tasteless. The worst was the Hefe-Weizen--I could not finish my sample.
The place had a few idiosyncrasies--although they sold glassware in their gift shop, the beer was served in plastic cups! I asked the bartender about this and she said they had no way to wash glasses!
The only food they serve is a pizza--I did not have it, so I can not comment. Also, don't expect to enjoy a nightcap--they close at 5 during the week and at 6 on friday and saturday.
I really do hope the brewing improves, they have a nice venue in a lovely part of Missouri.
