They have one of the most interesting beer menus in the US. We spend as much time as possible at this place when in Pasadena. The food has a traditional British leaning that hits the spot when in the mood (for, say, bangers and mash). The J. W. Lee's Harvest Ale aged in a Lagavulin cask was the single best beer I have ever had (but I like Scotch, especially Lagavulin). The waitstaff were exceptionally friendly. Just the best place in Pasadena!

Lucky Baldwin's is by far my #1 rated pub in the US! I travel constantly and use Pub Crawler as my guide...I've found plenty of GREAT beer places, but Lucky's takes the cake. I recently spent time in Belgium, and couldn't find a better pub. I'm only able to go to Lucky's about once every couple months, but every time I go I'm just blown away by the quality of their beer selection. Food is really decent as well...and, if you have the privilege of being served by Andrais, then you have the best beer AND the best bartender. Highly recommended for those who really appreciate the finer beers.

In reply to Steven S., why on earth would someone who doesn't like European beer and doesn't like English food, go to a British pub? Huh? Stick to the "Cheesecake Factory", Steven.

I saw they were having a Belgian beer festival, and had to go in. Fifty Belgians on tap. I was in heaven! The food was okay, and they need more waiters (15 minutes for a beer is excessive) but where else on this continent can you get Brasserie des Rocs Triple Imperiale?

If you're looking for good beer in a very casual yet not dirty atmosphere, Lucky Baldwin's is the place. It is an English Pub, so American Macro-Brew enthusiasts should head elsewhere. The patio's great on a sunny day, as long as you can be upwind from any smokers.

I ended up her just because it has the most ratings in the Los Angeles area as of October 2004.
I got clostriphobic at this place even though it was empty at lunch time on a Monday. They have a wierd Sandwhich shop in the front making the bar in the back very small. They try to make it a small English Pub feel but it makes the atmosphere wierd.
The service was okay typical can I get you a beer/menu conversation.
If your not into European Beers skip this place. The only thing I recognized on tap was Sierra Nevada. They have English, Belgen, and Irish beers on tap. Mostly Dark and Brown's. I had a Christmas Brown Special and a Craftsman Pale Ale which had Orange in it. I give them credit for having an original selection but if your into MicroBrews or American Beers this place is not for you.
The food is english style like fish and chips or bangers and mash. I had a grilled cheese cause I love a good Hamburger or Pizza America style but didn't want to drink on an empty stomache.
Even though the selection is good for a european style I wouldn't go back here even if someone asked me too. I would take the 3 block walk in any direction to either Crown City Brewery on Raymond & Del Mar or the Yard House in the mall just up Colorado. It doesn't suite me as an american beer drinker.

lucky baldwins is not for this snob, and does not cater to people of her like. or his like. i think she is really player hating, and is from a competing establishment. maybe library or father's office. lucky baldwins is one of the best beer spots period......

We sat out on the patio and enjoyed two pitchers of what they had on tap (can't remember the name but both not bad). Take a look at the waitress station you'll know why you have to drink and eat with one eye closed ... the rim of our pitcher was dirty. Though known for their fish and chips I wouldn't recommend it because the fish didn't have any flavor (frozen). Service not the greatest but that's OK - we just flaged them down.

This is a first rate establishment!
What more can I say? The beer selection is amazing: All good, all fresh, all properly maintained. Adequate variety without getting "weird". Great British brews on tap and in bottles. A wide selection of Belgians and a representative sample of North American brews.
I had the "Ploughman's Lunch" on a 105 degree Valley Day, following a long day searching an old house for probate materials. I was hot, tired, thirsty and hungry. The folks at Lucky Baldwin's knew exactly what I needed. My server was brand new and needed some help finding bottles and her beer knowledge was lacking, but nobody took offense to it. We're all here to have a good time.
If I lived in Pasadena, this would be my 'Local'. I've been a long time (10 years +) visitor at Crown City, but Lucky's seems to have captured the essence of a British local. Would I return? YOU BET! On a scale of 1 to four mugs, this gets a four!

Best beer selection in the area, including a great diversity of belgin ales, barleywines, and microbrews. Look out for the special festivals, when the variety multiplies. Excellent pub.

Atmosphere is terribly boring. Food is terrible-greasy, frozen-microwaved horrid stuff. Beer selection is good to midling, if you can get anyone to serve you a drink. This is the worst pub I've encountered in Pasadena. And I've been here 5 times and it's never different. Wait staff are rude and excruciatingly slow, virtually incompetant. Bathrooms are disgusting. Dirty tables, dirty glasses. Overpriced beer, and a lot of it is never available. A huge disappointment. Will never go here again.

Great line-up of taps and solid bottle selection. Lots of hard to find beers. Food is good, standard English Pub grub.
Best Belgian beer selection in the L.A. area. (Several are always on tap and the annual week-long Belgian fest rocks!)
Also does theme nights monthly featuring all the beers from a brewery, keep the pint glass. Had the Rauchbier from Sierra Nevada at the S.N. night. Might have been first time the Rauchbier was outside the brewery.
