Our visit here in April was my second, some nine years after my first stop. As other reviewers have noted, the emphasis here is definitely on others' beers rather than their own. Only the Crown City Amber was available the evening we visited. I had a pint of the house amber& satisfactory but not exceptional. I was much more pleased with my pint of Craftsman Smoked Black Lager. My "great" beer ratings are because of the availability of a few exceptional beers like this. Service was solid on a busy Friday evening.

Hard to believe this is a microbrew. I don't think they brew their own. Only three own name brews on tap compared to 20 or so other taps and 50 or so world brew bottles. I suspect contract brewer. Great beer bar though

This used to be one of my regular hang outs when I was in college and even now, I take the wife and kids back there now. They have a great food selection and awesome home brews. I am particular to the Mt. Whitney Wheat and the Oatmeal Stout.

Nice atmosphere and decor, very casual. Appears to be a local's hangout. Very good bottled beer inventory. Tried a Christmas Spiced Ale freshly brewed. A nice offering , better than average. Food is average, nothing to get excited about. Worth a visit if you're near by, but don't go out of your way.

I walked to this place after bad visit at Lucky Baldwin's. This is my first time back in 3 years after getting a Shirt for drinking 100 beers and getting my name on the wall and a free shirt.
They no longer brew beers on location but they moved the brewery up the street. The beers they brew are always delicious I had a pale ale and an amber beer. They also have over 100 beers in bottles and a great tap selection. The food hasn't gotten any better but the still have a mediocore burger and chili fries.
I like the space in this place and the bartenders are always nice especially if you love golf. Its one of the best brewery's in Pasadena. I would take my friends here

Heard about this place after watching the DooDah Parade in Pasadena. Atmosphere is great, the people that work there are cool. You must have to be drunk and starving to eat here on a regular basis they need a chef big time.
The beer selection is pretty decent. Their homebrews taste pretty good but award winning. The great gimmick they have to keep people coming back is a passport arond the world. If you drink 100 beers (not all at once) you get a free shirt and your name on a plaque on the wall. If not for anything else its great for people who are interested in tasting different varieties of beers from around the world and at least your get a free shirt out of it.

Went there last night- they only had two in-house beens available. The red was okay, the brown wasn't drinkable. Food was bar food- overpriced and so-so. If you are around, go ahead and stop, but don't bother going out of your way.

Reliable as always. Always a friendly crowd, always a good game on TV. The beer is always fresh and the food is always tasty. Great selection of beer and all of it is fresh - no oddball selections that have been ont he shelf for a year or two. Only two of their own on tap today, but that is OK with the large selection on tap and in the cooler. I only get by a couple of times a year nowadays, but the question when I walk in the door is "Where have you been?". It's THAT kind of place.. Well worth a visit when in Pasadena.

I tried both the Ale and the DunkelWeizen, both beers had an overwhelming amount of diacetyl. So much so that they essentially tasted identical. Diacetyl is a by-product of the fermentation process that produces a buttery or butterscotch aroma. In some lagers, at low doses, it's a desirable characteristic. In ale's it's almost always considered a defect. At Crown City, it was obnoxiously bad. The thing that really bothers me though is that it's about the easiest defect to detect and cure. If the beer is left on the yeast for another few days, the yeast will metabolize the diacetyl and you won't have this problem. So the brewer at Crown City either isn't tasting his beer before releasing it, or just doesn't care. Either way, not a place I'll go back to.

This was my first Brew Pub, and it is the best place for micor brews and bottled brews. If you started and stopped your pub crawling here, you would be doing great.

I stopped by today for lunch. Their own Pale tasted a bit off, but that may also have been the reult of too much coffee earlier in the day. The Smoked Salmon Lavosh for lunch coupled with a good game on TV did the trick. Anchor Porter on tap was as fresh as it could be. Friendly local crowd as always. This is one of my favorites. On a scale of one to four mugs, give this a 3 1/2.

Had the Black Bear Stout and having tried many, felt it was one of the best. Will return. 5 or 6 house drafts, 10-12 micros and over 100 bottles. Many visit Gordon Biersch when visiting Pasadena but Crown City is where the locals go.

Good beers at good prices. If you don't like their brews there are 100+ others to try. Food is good - Stick to the pub grub/sandwich selections. Sit in the bar area - Service is friendly and prompt.

the menu offers entirely too many selections. nevertheless, the food was quite good. the only gripe is maybe they could be a little more generous with the portions. I had the sampler and settled for a pint of amber afterwards. The amber was pretty good- I'd recommend this place if you are in the area.

A nice place for a beer -- just not one of Crown City's brews, that is! Excellent selection of bottled beer, but the House Brews were rather wishy-washy and dull...//TSB

We stopped here for Dinner one night, 2 buddies and me. We drank Great beer, about 3 rounds for the three of us, trappist ale as well, and ate appetizers as well as Entrees, the bill was only around 60 bucks! I was expecting a lot more, so we left a fat tip for the quick service. The Arroyo blonde was nice. Definitely a must stop for the beer freak, and for anyone looking for a great dining experience with great beer.

Not many of their own on tap, and not all that good except for the Wintergreen Stout, which had a black licorice aroma and a great taste. Great selection of other beers, both in bottle and on draught.

A MUST stop while in Pasadena. Good beer, good service, zero attitude, friendly regulars all happily willing to trade beer advice. To get the true spirit of this place, sign up for one of their sports bus road trips.
