Sorely missed. I believe the owner just retired. The scotch ale and the bitter were always the best. I would brave the coldest MN night for the Winter Warmer.

Does anyone know why this placed closed? I just moved to the Minneapolis area and was looking forward to frequenting this place often. I used to stop whenever I visited in the past and was very disappointed to see it closed. I hope someone brings it back to life. If anyone knows what happened, please inform????

I'm really going to miss this place. I was there the first year it opened, became a regular and moved. I looked forward to my trips to Minneapolis, and never missed Sherlock's. Cheers to Bill, Carol, Linda, Phil, and Wild Bill.

1/20/03 - I called to check on what to do about an unredeemed gift certificate. Was informed in a voice mail that they are only closed for remodeling and expect to reopen in about 90 days.

Unfortunately, this wonderful Brew Pub is closing as of today, December 31, 2002. It provided the Twin Cities' best beer for 14 years, and will be sorely missed.

The beer is good but nothing to write home about. The same can be said of the food. Service is patchy away from the bar itself so sit there or pray. Don't expect the waitstaff to help; I don't think they can be bothered. French attitude in an English pub is not a good combo. I've not ventured into the main room staying near the bar where I feel more at home. I suppose that's where it gets really bad (as noted by several other reviewers). Strangely though, it still all seems to add up. Perhaps I keep returning because it's the only place I've found a real bristle dartboard in the state of MN!

Lots of excellent handpulled selections. The Bitter, IPA and Scottish were all excellent representation of English styles. Were I more of an English beer fan, Sherlock's would have received an excellent. If you do like the handpulled English style, this is a can't miss place!

Place was quite busy following the Argentina-England World Cup match. Tried the Bitter and Porter, both were excellant as well as the French Onion Soup. Owner (I assume) and the bartender were very friendly and personable

Excellent authentic beers. The bitter is the closest I have had to London. Definitely one of the best bew pubs in the country. Get there early to get the cask beer from the only brewpub in the US that uses wood casks.

Sundays used to be my regular Sherlock's nights, but I go less and less now. I must confess, I HATE the "impromptu music session!" Not one person I have heard there in about two years can sing well enough to leave their own showers. The beers remain great, but the singers should at least be banished to the dining room where they cannot annoy anyone with an ear. Without the "music" the place is great; with it, it blows.

Sat at the bar one Sunday evening with a friend and enjoyed the sound of impromptu acoustic guitar as well as an explosive Bishop's Bitter and a complex stout. Its not a bar, its an experience.

When I add a review, I typically don't pull any punches. I'm very demanding. That said, this may well be the best brewpub in the country. Granted, British Beers are my prefered style, but not many American brewers can really get the taste of a true British Bitter. Try the Bishops Bitter and drink it like an Englishman. Don't sip it, it's not wine. Take a large swallow. The taste just explodes on the palatte. I love this beer. The other beers are all great; but if you order something else, that's one less Bishop's Bitter you get to have before you die. Let someone else order the other beer and take a taste of theirs. Oh, and the food is great too. Try the Lamb Curry. It goes well with the Bitter.

Dinner: roast duck with Pale Ale, Scottish Ale, and Porter. All were excellent. Lunch: fish & chips with Stout - fantastic. Great English pub atmosphere with hand-drawn brews served at the proper temperature. I highly recommend a visit here.

This is a great establishment for educating yourself on the intricacies of British ales. Everything here is authentic, so don't expect the IPA to be agressively hopped like many American IPAs tend to be. Try to appreciate the complexities of the Bishop's Bitter--it is outstanding. It may take a while for anyone who craves hoppier beers (such as myself) to appreciate how good this beer really is. Try to talk to the brewmaster, he is justifiably arrogant, but knows more about brewing than you can imagine.

An authentic English pub recreated in the Minneapolis suburbs, Sherlock's Home is an experience. The neighborhood is sterile (suburban office park) but the pub is warm and friendly. Beers are served at the proper temperature, with at least half of them on hand pumps. The house yeast produces some diacetyl (buttery flavor), which is authentic for English beers but may not be to all tastes. The dark beers were the best in our opinion, while the IPA was quite mild and not as bitter as it might have been. The food is also authentic English pub fare. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary in the Twin Cities, Sherlock's Home is worth the trip.

After reading all the comments below I knew I had to try this place. I had slight difficultly finding Sherlock's because they have no sign in front. The beer selection is very good with traditional English styles. I tried the Bitter, IPA and the Stout. Of these only the IPA is pushed and was my least favorite of the bunch. It needed much more hops. The Bitter was very tasty and hopped nicely. The Stout was also tasty, thick and creamy. I recommend sticking with the cask beers. Food was pretty good and I don't feel that it is as overpriced as others mention below.
