Empire re-opened over the summer of 07 and have made quite an impact with the great food and amazing beer selection that everyone had remembered. They're under new ownership and the head Brewmaster is the former Brewmaster of Middle Ages. If you haven't been in since they've reopened I suggest you stop by.

Closed in September 2003. Latest news is that re-opening efforts have run into a wall.

Word around town on 3/3/04 was that the place may be reopening under new ownership. I'll keep checking out the local reviews for the lastest info.

What a shame that this place closed. I really liked what it brought to Armory Square and the city of Syracuse. Excellent beer and good food too. Oh well.

Visited Empire on the tail end of our labor day New England beer trip. It had the best selection of the eight stops we made. All of their 12 beers were very good although they didn't offer anything overly hoppy at the time. I was very impressed with their diverse selection including a Berliner Weisse (not nearly as tart as the german imports that i tasted, but still good) and Shwartz (which was of my favorites, and i'm happy to note that it did get the Gold at GABF 2002). Definately a must visit.

We were there on a crowded Friday night so service was a bit slow and impersonal. The beer was the excellent, on a par with the best. We tried the Kolsh, Imperial Stout, and the Irish Red. They were all fine.

What a find, the place reminded me of Pioneer Square in Seattle. I loved the Cajun themed menu, after living on Long Island for 5 years I had given up getting a decent beer, Thank You Empire. Down to Business, I found the Hefe to be one of the finest I have ever tasted, The Amber Ale was wonderfully hoppy and The Pale Ale was as great. I was so impressed with this place that while on a recent business trip there, I saw no reason to visit any other establishment. Which is saying something when I saw a Rouge Brewery Sign across the street at the Blue Tusk, Rouge has to be my favorite. The only Beer at Empire that I definately did'nt care for was the Honey Ginger A little to light and sweet for my taste.
I will definately be back

Just wanted to let you know how great the blues brunch was during to blues festival this past weekend. I ate there last year also, your food is excellent. That brunch menu was superb! Sorry, I don't do micro's, I'm a die-hard Rolling Rock man. Great atmosphere included.

This was a Pubcrawl put together by our group to investigate Armory Square. We are the S.C.A.L.E. group and were totally blown away by this place. The atmosphere is great, the food is fantastic and the beer was excellent. We ordered three samplers to pass around and were impressed by the quality of these brews. I liked the Skinny Atlas Ale, a good light Kolsch. But my favorite was the Maibock. Great place to start off a pubcrawl.

A large group of us went there shortly before 11 pm on a Saturday and were informed that the kitchen was closing shortly, but they seated us promptly and managed to squeeze us in before it closed down for the night. The food was very tasty (we stuck to pubgrub -- burgers and pizza, but other food is available). I drank the amber and tasted the hefeweizen and the skinny atlas light. The amber was great! Nice balance, it definitely leaned towards a NA Pale Ale. The hefe was nice, right on style. The light was TOO light -- no distinct character at all -- i guess they brew that one to cater to the college scene, because it didn't fit with the others (they had about 8 on tap). Service was a little slow, but friendly. I'd return here...

Most of the seasonals are always on tap, so there is a good selection and plenty of opportunity to compare and contrast the different types. There is something good for everyone's taste.

It's always refreshing (no pun intended) to find a brewmaster who knows what he's doing. This one really does. I loved the IPA and the Winter Elixer (made with heather), which--though strange tasting at first--turned out to be my favorite. And the food was terrific. There are not many microbreweries that have food at such a high level.

When we visited there, the place had twelve brews on tap. My favorite was the Gruit, a beer flavored with herbs instead of hops: the Medieval way! The Schwarzbier was also excellent. The Platt Street Pilsner was good as well; after that, the products tapered off into vapidity. The food was very good. I was overall very impressed.

Great place! Had the imperial stout which was dynamite and their Black Magic Stout (a Guiness clone that was a little better than Guiness). Also had a Buffalo Salmon sandwich which was excellent. Very large and interesting menu, and they had about 10 of their brews on tap. I will be making several return visits when in the area.

I sure did like the Skinny Atlas (Kolsch). It had a very clean grain/malt flavor with just enough hop bitterness to balance. The Purple Haze was a hit with my wife who "likes that sort of thing" (fruit beer with the fruit predominating in the nose and the mouth). No time to try the food on this visit.
