A brew pub that has 50 - yes fifty taps just can't go wrong. It also indicates a huge confidence in their own beers. I (as a drinker of very small quantities - drinker in training) would have to spend a few days to pass comment about the beer range - other than the domestic beers as "no comment" is all that need be said.
Dean, the master brewer, dressed in that style of elegance know only in the brewing world, produces an eclectic range of his own beers and supervises the fifty taps. This again is one of those "local pubs" that cater to the regulars. Within minutes I was chatting and having my leg pulled by some of the regulars. I visit so many places and generally, I intend to return. This is one of them. No grand style, just local comfort with the usual crowd where they all know each others name. Another watering hole not to be missed. By the way, to absorb all the alcohol - go for that cheese soup. Don't order if you arn't hungry. Artery blocking good.
When I find my notes I will probably add to this encouragement to visit this place.

SDBC has a great selection of guest brews, 36 brews by my count (although one of them was Bud Light, to go along with 5 house brews, and this is probably the highlight of the place. They were out of one of the five house brews on their board, so I only got to sample 4. The Porter was just so-so, but the Hefeweizen was better, and the Amber and Nutbrown were both very good.
Overall I was disappointed in the food. The hot wings were mediocre, the Bavarian sausage sandwich had a pretty uniteresting sausage coupled with a nearly inedible bun and a side of fries that lacked any real flavor. After one bit of her guacamole/pepperjack burger, my wife went in search of something to give it some flavor, but the onion rings were pretty good. Their house speciality is a Jalapeno Beer Cheese which I thought was excellent. At the suggestion of our server we began dipping all of our food into it and it saved the meal. If you are going to order food here I strongly suggest the the beer cheese bowl, and then dip away.
I probably won't visit here again, at least not until I have tried several other establishments in the area. From what I gather they have two affiliated brew pubs, one with a Mexican theme and one with an Irish theme. If these places are better I might return to SDBC and chalk my food experience up to a bad day. If the food was better the beer selection woul dmake this place a must try.

After researching on the net to determine the single brewpub in the San Diego area that my family would be most likely to enjoy while on vacation, I chose SDBC, and we stopped in here last week. The place didn’t seem very busy, I’m not sure why, as everything was pretty good and it was right at around 7:00 or so. It seems there are a few locals who frequent the place – there was a young mother and child, and the waitress knew them by name; and an elderly couple ordered “the usual”. The waitress was very friendly and joked with us a bit. I ordered the sampler of their 7 house beers, and all were very well made and to style. My favorite was the old ale, which was bittersweetly balanced with West Coast hops and malt, and I believe was around 9% ABV. The amber ale was similar and also excellent, but not as strong as it was closer to 5% ABV. I also tried their light beer, hefeweizen, brown ale, cocoa porter, Belgian ale, all were very good. The food was alright, but didn’t leave a lasting impression. I had the California burrito. It was huge, plump and tasty, but having never tried anything else like it, I’ve got nothing else to compare it to. The wife tried the French dip, which was alright but not the best she’s had. The kids were happy with their hot dog and fries or whatever they got. All in all, this wasn’t the best brewpub I’ve been to, but I’d come back again, without my family, mainly to enjoy the broad selection of beers, both in-house and otherwise. Worth a look.

I think that SDBC is a sports pub that has 45 different taps of local and imported draft beers that just happens to brew it's own beer. The house beers are pretty good but seem like an afterthought. The food is good as is the service. Not the best location in a strip mall. Visit if you are in the area but if you are in San Diego for the beer there are other much better choices.

The absolute best thing about SDBC is that they are not ashamed to serve other microbrews on tap.

Awesome selection of great beers on tap! Of their own four brews on tap that day my wife and I tried the stout, amber, and nut brown. I'll return the next time I'm in town.

Only had 3 beers to taste when I was last there. Tanya was very helpful (and worth the trip) and informative. Lots of beers on tap here. I will stop by next time I am in san Diego. Just a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip.

I always make a stop at SDBC when I make the trip to the coast.. The house IPA is excellent. Our service was outstanding and the beer selection, well if you can't find something you like, you shouldn't be drinking beer...

The new Paddle Out Pale Ale is their best. Very hoppy. Sadly, they've been running out. I was hoping to fill up my take-out jug tonight, but they ran dry.

House beers were so so but they had about 45 beers on tap. Five or so were their own and the other forty were from microbreweries. Bartender was knowledgable and personable. Drove by the strip mall it was located in twice before finding it. Prices were very reasonable.

The atmosphere is not all that great, but the beer was decent, the imperial stout was excellent (after it warmed up a bit), food was good, but service was a little slow.

The beer selection is extensive but the house brews are disappointing. The food is made with cheep ingredient and is bland like the house beer. Great place to drink beer and watch sports but not eat the tasteless food.

Incredibly busy! We loved the Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder, although it must have been the bottom of the pot as there wasn't much chicken in it. Beer sampler: the Cocoa Porter was sweet with a thick body; Friar's IPA was not hoppy at all, kind of sour, I don't recommend; El Hefe-weizen had a light taste, light color, not overpowering; Old Town Nut Brown was not available; San Diego Amber was the best of all with the right balance overall. 08/20/03 7pm

I was attending a conference in San Diego and happened upon this out of the way brewpub. Really enjoyed their beers, I'm a porter man myself, and found the waitresses very friendly. With the Golden Oldies Rugby tournament heading to your town in '05, I will be back again with about 5,000 of my mates!

Great selection of beer, including their own. Many locally brewed guest taps including from Alesmith which is harder to find on tap than Stone but better in my opinion. Can't rate the food since I'm vegan all I could have were the fries, though they were very good. Very nice bartenders! Laid back atmosphere. Go to this place; don't let the strip center location fool you!

the little mexican manager guy at the bar on april 21 had your cooks tamper with my food im sick now. this is not a joke this guy has been given me the evil eye for i would say 2 years now. maybe its about nikki(ex employee) who knows i ordered a burger that was terrible and i was watched as i ate by this manager and 1 of the cooks. i do pay attention to my surroundings a little bit better than the next guy cause of my work. i want this person terminated or we will have to take further actions.

I go here very often, like 2 to 3 times a week. The beer is great and the food is great. The hot wings and beer cheese soup are wonderful. very reasonable prices on the food and beer. NOT a yuppie beer joint with over priced food and only non-dark beers. Not sure how people can say that their beer selection of 40 beers on tap is not rated as "awesome". They usualy have like 4 or 5 of the house brews on tap. My favorites are the Amber and the Nut Brown. And the beer is very inexpenisive I believe its about $3 for house brews and there are many specials when the beer is even cheaper.

The five or so house beers always seem great tasting to me, so I have never tried any of the other 40 or 50 beers on their menu. I think this place has much better beer than Karl Strauss, a famous local brewery in San Diego.
The chicken Caesar salad is my favorite. I have tried some of the other food, which is generally good, but there are a couple of items off the menu others have ordered that did not taste so good.
After a year in San Diego, I continue to visit this place once or twice a week. It is hard to beat.
