"I've been visiting Bocktown monthly for nearly a year now, and I have never been disappointed. Its only downside is the location which keeps it from being prominently displayed for everyone to find. The food, service, and obviously beer are all excellent and will keep my coming back as long as I visit the Pittsburgh area.
Obviously, the first part has to be about the beer. While they have a large and well-stocked beer cooler for bottled beer, the stars are the taps, of which there are 15 or so. ALL of the beers on tap are quality ones -- no Miller Lite or garbage like that. Go find a Chili's or some place like that if you want to drink that swill. Their tap beers are typically sourced from somewhat local breweries, anywhere from Cleveland to Harrisburg though occasionally from farther afield. They always maintain a range of different types of beers with red ales, pale ales, lagers, stouts/porters, and stronger sorts (barley wine, triple bock) all fairly represented. If there's a type of beer you like, you'll probably find it on tap at any given time. Also, once the current keg is finished, they swap out that beer for something else so the selection is always changing. Fortunately, if you find one that you like, they are likely to have it in bottles. The staff knows their beers, too, and can provide good advice on what to try if you're unsure. And, they'll give you a taste (1/2 of a shot) for free, or you can buy a sample to get a better idea.
On Thursdays, if I recall correctly, they have an infusion beer where they run a brew through this contraption that infuses (surprise!) the beer with certain flavors, like orange or spices. Further, on Wednesdays, they'll be visited by a brewery who will provide free samples of various beers that are often featured on the taps.
As for the food, if it weren't as good as it is, I probably would venture to other places for beer at some point. All of their food ingredients are sourced from local vendors and are definitely excellent quality. Their normal menu items are great, with huge burgers, terrific fries, and some fantastic sandwiches and entrees (including several outstanding salads for healthier selections). However, they also have an array of specials that change daily which are typically very good. Honestly, I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered there except for the ravioli, which I wouldn't recommend (not bad, just somewhat bland). Whoever the chef is, I hope he/she stays there!
I highly encourage you to check this place out. It's somewhat small, but they open up the patio at the end of May. Find the Target in Robinson and then look across the parking lot -- you won't be disappointed. And if you are, drink more beer, and you'll probably forget!"
