Does beer have a terroir, the French word for a wine’s expression of the land it was grown on? We sent Zak Stambor to investigate:

Throughout the past decade, that notion has spread from the wine-centric world to the regions that produce some of the globe’s best coffee, tea and cocoa beans. So when I heard that Sierra Nevada was producing its first-ever Chico Estate Ale produced entirely from hops, barley, and yeast grown on the brewery’s Chico, Calif.-based property in an effort to highlight the area’s terroir, I wasn’t surprised. But I was perhaps a bit skeptical.
