Karl Strauss drops the bomb
Get ready Southern California, Karl Strauss Brewing Co. is about to drop a bomb on you. A 22-ounce bomb of Big Barrel Double IPA, that is. Scheduled to drop in early November, Big Barrel is the brewery’s first-ever 22-ounce brew and also the first beer to launch the Coastal Reserve series.
What makes Big Barrel the prefect beer to launch the series? Brewmaster Paul Segura strayed from the traditional Pacific Northwest hops that are used in most double IPAs. To give the beer a more exotic hop profile, Segura went with Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand, which are recognized for their intense tropical mango, tangerine, and passion fruit flavors.
If more fruit is what you want, then more fruit is what you get. The tropical taste keeps on coming with Chico yeast flavoring that leads to a smooth and dry finish with a hint of fruity bitterness.
If this is making your mouth water or your taste buds tingle, get it as fast as you can. The run of this fruity, 9% ABV brew is limited to 600 cases. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
