SBC continues to be a very welcome oasis in the land of Hops and other so-called Alehouses. I am surprised at the two "so-so" reviews below and think they must be aberrations. The beers are always flavorful, hoppy when they should be, and with a significant ABV. Vince, the brewer, is regularly on hand in the afternoons and is an excellent conversationalist about beer and other cultural matters. Popcorn around 3 p.m. is also a nice touch. SBC is with question "worth a detour." |

Many plusses in addition to a nice beer selection: easy to reach, on several subway lines; very attractive old building and bar; excellent free popcorn, crackers and cheese, pretzels, etc. But, bartenders frequently inattentive and you need to go before the after-work hordes arrive. Some weekend closures - check first if planning to go on Saturday or Sunday. |

Establishment:
Coyote Springs Brewing Company and Cafe, Phoenix, AZ
Excellent pale and nut brown ales; IPA off. Very attractive bar with dark paneling, mirrors, side tables with stools. But avoid Fri/Sat nights unless you enjoy eardrum bursting music. Location - SE corner of Camelback and N. 20th Ave. (not west side of 20th as noted below) |

Good beers, but I agree that the atmosphere is a bit drab. Excellent IPA (7.2 ABV), but no one on duty knew the IBUs. Beware - it closes promptly at 11 p.m. |

Excellent variety of about 20 draughts, plus a cider. Outstanding pizza in a simple unpretentious establishment. |

Establishment:
Man of Kent Tavern, Hoosick Falls, NY
Worth a considerable detour to visit this pub which is outstanding in all respects: beer, sandwiches, hospitality, decor, and overall ambience. Owner John is a terrific publican. Four Speckled Hens attested to my enjoyment. Excellent budget motel just a half mile west. Caution: pub closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Location - not really hard to find, but not in Hoosick Falls (just the P.O. address); pub is on NY 7, one mile west of the intersection of 7 and NY 22South. |

Lake Titus Brewery, Malone, NY
A tiny two-man operation serving only the North Country. Not in Malone - 7 miles south on NY #30. Stop in for endless 12 oz samples and great conversation, then purchase! |
