Lousy Lousy Awesome! Great Good

Establishment: District ChopHouse and Brewery, Washington, DC

I went to the Chophouse with my wife and her co-worker. Beer selection was lousy. They did not have any hoopy beers and I'm a hophead. The beers they had were watery and at best uneventful. The amber had a taste of wet cardboard. Stout had the taste of an old shoe. I honestly thought they had amatuer brewmaster night and that is how they brew their beer that was how bad it was.

On the flipside the food and service was excellent and did make up for the poor beer. I had the lamb and it was perfect. My wife had the stuffed trout and it melted in your mouth. It really was that good. Portion sizes were fantastic. The surf and turf was enough for two people.

I will go back for the food and the service but the beer----yuck!!!

Hey Jared in Rhode Island you do not understand the dynamics surrounding this situation so stay out of it. The general manager responded to me which is great. Further, he did it in a way that was wholly appropriate. He alleviated my worries and concerns. I just wanted to make sure that the new ownership gives a damn and now I know they do.

I love beer that the brewmaster (Joe) makes and this establishment in in the middle of our Olde Towne area. It is encouraging to know that he is finally going to get quality ingredients for his brewing for the first time in years. We have been working as a city to bring back the viability of this area and the last thing I want to see is a failure on their part. Failure could have a lasting negative impact on the future of our city so the stakes are high.

I nor anyone else asked for your opinion so keep it too yourself. I guess you just can't stand me being "as honest as you can." like the pubcrawler website asks us to do. I think you need a beer or two so you can chill out.

I dug a little deeper into trying to find their website and found that they registered with go daddy.com in February. They have not updated the page since they bought it and that shows a lack of foresight in posting the site on their building (The Belt Building)and not having it up and running.

I've heard that a group of KIDS has bought the place and from the organization I've seen so far they must be right because their business practices are quite juvenile.

I would love it if one of the new owners(Kids)would get on this site and refute it but it does not look like they give a damn. I've heard they used to own the Last Mango and that place shut so it looks like they are going to run ANOTHER establishment into the ground----must be trust fund babies cause they act it!

For the time being DogFish Head will continue to have my business. While DFH is expensive they have a mature owner and excellent service.

Hey "Kids" this is not a keg party and we're not in high school----Get with it.

Tried to find the website they have listed on the window and cannot find the site. Did look at the building permit though and it was estimated at $100,000 with work being done on the 1st and 3rd floor. The dumpster in the rear of the building was full of the what looked like torn down walls from inside. The bars needed a complete overhaul on both levels. Lets hope they do a good job.

I hope they open soon. The deck upstairs is great in the summertime heat and Joe makes is the best beer. I Can't wait for the next batch of Irvington Pale Ale.
