Good Awesome! N/A Good Good

Establishment: Strip Brewing Company, Pittsburgh, PA

One of the largest selections that I've seen in a brewpub, but the differences between many of the beers were subtle. For example, the Love Stout #9 tasted as much like a Cafe Mocha as a stout whereas the Porter O'Call had a more pronounced chocolate taste with less coffee. In fact all of the "dark" beers reminded me of gourmet coffees; they were tasty and refreshing, but traditionalists might not appreciate them. I'll definitely go back if for no other reason that it is good to have such a distinctive alternative.

Good Good Great Great Great

Establishment: Quay Street Brewing Company, Port Huron, MI

This is a young brewpub, open only since July. One of the owners also owns the Victorian Inn one of Port Huron's best restaurant/pubs/bed and breakfasts. The ginger beer was quite good, the porter was tasty but lacked body. The menu is phenomenal. There is frequently entertainment as well. Port Huron buzzes during the boating season but hopefully the winters will be kind, as well.

Great Good Great Great Great

Establishment: Capitol City Brewing Company - Downtown, Washington, DC

This place has given me a reason to go back to Washington! Typically offering four to five of the beers from their selection, the darker beers (Porter, Ale, and Stout), are substantial in both taste and body. In a city where competition guarantees a high quality a brewpub this good wouldn't need to compete but they do with food quality that is outstanding. I highly recommend this place!

Establishment: Schirf Brewing Company was Wasatch Brew Pub, Park City, UT

What can you say about a brewpub in Park City; there aren't many options. That having been said, this is a wonderful little contemporary brewpub with a decent menu (but there are much better restaurants just down the street), and a solid selection of beers. I've tried it twice in a year and was never disappointed. During the ski season this is a good place to warm your heels while you wait for a table to become free at one of this town's delightful resturants. Of course, if you stay here long enough, you won't need to eat (and won't miss it!)

N/A Good Good Great Good

Establishment: Grille On Seventh was Seventh Street Grille, Pittsburgh , PA

Nice location in downtown, near the theatres. The tap selection varies but always includes a mix of the favorites as well as microbrews and if you are into other drinks besides beer, the bartenders are imaginative. The food is consistently getting better and the appetizers on Friday are often first rate. The bar area is small (if you are bothered by smoke), but there is a downstairs restaurant as well.

So So So So Good Good Good

Establishment: Pennsylvania Brewing Company aka Penn Brewery, Pittsburgh , PA

The atmosphere here is truly German brewery (not one of those fancy new high tech places), the menu is predominantly German and of good quality. The Penn Pilsner is the best of the lot, the Penn Dark has a chocolaty taste but surprisingly little body (typical of a lot of Pittsburgh dark beers). If you want authentic German food and a good Pilsner, this is the place. Also, they sponsor a beer-tasting in late spring which is worth the price of admission.

Good Good Good Good Good

Establishment: The Church Brew Works, Pittsburgh , PA

Beer quality varies with the style, but the sampler is a good deal. The menu is solid including the appetizers which are better most. Cigarette smoke can be a problem if you don't like it as there is no way to preserve the church atmosphere and secure a non-smoking area to boot. Parking is on the street and hard to find during peak hours. Overall a solid choice for Pittsburgh.

Good Good So So So So Good

Establishment: Valhalla Microbrewery and Restaurant, Pittsburgh , PA

The red seems to be the tastiest, the others are run of the mill and their darkest beer is weak! There is nothing to distinguish the menu. Seating is limited, especially when it is too cold to be on the balcony (which could stand some heat lamps in spring and fall).
