Awesome! Great N/A Awesome! Awesome!

Establishment: Keegan Ales, Kingston, NY

We stopped in during the Saturday tasting room hours and were greeted by Colin, a very amiable employee, who took us through generous samples of the three styles offered (as well as a half and half --"Old Mother "-- for my wife and a black and tan -- "Milk for the Kitty" --for me). I rated the selection as Great even though there are only 3 offerings. This is because, after talking to owner/brewer Tom Keegan, I found that his philosophy of limiting styles and doing them ALL well makes great sense. The 3 brews offered meet 3 different basic demands: Old Capital is a Golden Ale for the person who prefers lighter, quaffable beers, Hurricane Kitty is for the Hophead and Mother's Milk is an awesome Milk Stout. I generally classify myself as a Hophead, but the Mother's Milk was fantastic. Kitty was great and Old Capital was also very drinkable. Those of you clamoring for BIG beers might be disappointed, but you should give these a try for the quality alone. Tasting room has shirts, hats, glasses and growlers for sale. The bottling line is still being refurbished, but should be up soon, no doubt increasing availability. Great beers and great people -- Keep up the good work!

My wife and I went in on New Year's Eve around 6 pm for dinner and didn't have reservations. We were told we would have to wait 30 minutes, but they would seat us as soon as possible. Well the 30 minutes turned into less than 30 seconds and they found a place for us! of the 6 beers on tap, we tried 3 - Wheat - filtered with a nice golden color, good body and flavor; Pale - pretty solid, hoppy, with a fruity aroma; Red - deep red, malty brew. Not tried was the Dry Stout, Pumpkin and Apple (wasn't sure if this was a cider or what). My wife had a filet and I had a chicken pizza, both were delicious and the pizza was BIG! Besides the rapid seating, our waitress was great for such a busy night (even if her knowledge of the brews was lacking...). We would definitely visit again.

I don't think I have to say much more about this place that wasn't covered here already! Chimay Cinq Cent, Val Dieu Brune, Hoegaarden White all on tap were sampled by our group. The awesome selection in bottles was touched upon with Three Floyd's Alpha King and La Fin du Monde. It was excellent, and after this place, the day started getting a little fuzzy! Cool, cozy decor, jamming scene!

This was a cool place. We only had time for a couple -- the BPA was a nice, hoppy pale ale and the pilsner was a great, flavorful representation of the style. The decor and music was hip, the service was great. I'd like to get back to try the food, after seeing other raves in these reviews.

Establishment: Independence Brew Pub, Philadelphia, PA

This place, tucked away around the block from the main entrance to the convention center, was a great early afternoon stop on my trip to Philly. My companions and I had the Kolsch, Red and IPA (3 of the 5 currently on). All three were very good, true to style. They were served a bit cold, but as the flavors started to come out we were pleased. The nachos were a multi-layered treat and the beer battered fries were tasty with a splash of malt vinegar. The special that runs when there's football on (from noon on saturday) was helpful on the wallet and the woman bartending (sorry, we didn't get your name!)was informed and very friendly. I'd visit this place again...it's worth a stop.

Establishment: Market Street Grille was Bohannon Brewing Company, Nashville, TN

I only had one beer here, the Pale Ale, and wasn't terribly impressed. Not bad, but there are far better in Nashville. I had been here a few years back and they had a bunch on tap -- this visit they only had what they considered their 4 year round standards. Food was ok, pub fayre. Service was very good and the building itself is worth stopping in for, just don't spend too much time here with Bosco's and Blackstone in town...as well as a few other good beer bars.

Establishment: Boscos Nashville Brewing Company, Nashville, TN

My wife and I stopped in for a couple of pints while wandering around this cool neighborhood between lunch and dinner. My wife had the Stone, which she was digging. I had the IPA and the Alt, both of which were great. Didn't eat here, but the food looked good, especially the pizzas. The bartender seemed a little curt when we first got there, but that could have been because she was doing several things at once, including tending to several tables in the bar area, restocking the bar, etc. She seemed to settle down, though, and became pleasant and helpful. It seemed like this place would be a good place to hang out for a while, and we might've if we had the time. Hopefully we'll make it back some day!

Establishment: Blackstone Restaurant and Brewery, Nashville, TN

The wife and I stopped in for lunch on the Friday after Thanksgiving and started with a sampler of 6. The Nutbrown and Porter Were nice beers with the former being a mild, very drinkable beer. The Oatmeal Stout was just on that week, and was good, but i've had better. The Red Springs Pale and the amber(?) were solid, slightly hopped beers. The Chaser Kolsch was obviously for the macro-drinker. Food was decent and the service was excellent. Nicholas, our server was helpful and knowledgable about the beers. Very friendly place, and my new favorite in Nashville!

I think it's pretty well covered below, but the beers (RH and House) are drinkable, but nondescript. The Octoberfest had No real flavor at all when trying it after the RH Special Ale. The 2 best on the sampler were both RiverHorse: Special and Hop Hazard. The food was outstanding in the upstairs dining area. (Downstairs has a more pub-like menu, which the hostess should tell people as she's seating them. We saw at least 2 different tables of people get up and request to sit downstairs after looking at the pricier formal dining options). Our waitress did an efficient and friendly job, but lacked beer knowledge and we lost sight of her for a while when the place started to fill up with patrons. One major (to me!) complaint: I went to purchase a pint glass for my collection, but when I found out they charged $8.50 for one EMPTY, I told them no thank you...it's the first time i've ever turned one down, and i left disappointed.

Establishment: Cambridge Brewing Company, Incorporated, Cambridge, MA

After trudging through the rainy streets of Cambridge, this place was a welcoming haven. The beer selection was varied, and the 3 we tried were excellent. A solid, hoppy IPA is what i started with, while my wife enjoyed the pumpkin. We followed this up with one of the house standards, an amber, which was good. The food was tasty, i had a giant sandwich and my wife really liked her fall raviolis. The service was good and the atmosphere was great. Overall, worth a stop.

Establishment: Boston Beer Works - North Station, Boston, MA

very friendly and efficient staff at this location...since we got there early on a sunday afternoon, they even wanted to set us up with our game of choice on the nearest tv! The wife and i had a light lunch (she had the grilled steak caesar salad, i had the chowder and 1/2 sandwich combo featuring a california grilled chicken wrap) which was very good. As for the beers -- 15 on tap! two of which were on cask...My wife had the pumpkinhead which was a solid "pumpkin pie" experience. I had the cask IPA, which was smooth and delicious. I also tried the pilsner, which was bavarian style, rich and malty with a deep golden hue. This place is great, 1 block away from the fleet center and north station. So if you're in that neighborhood pass up all of the other bars on canal street and make it in to BBW-NS!

Establishment: Harvest Moon Brewery / Cafe, New Brunswick, NJ

I was there again last night and talked to Matt, the new brewer. It seems like there's a lot of good stuff that's going to be coming out of this place again. The beers were solid and everyone in my group of six were found something they liked. The APA was a big hit with the group, but I stuck with the IPA (if this was the same batch i had last time, the extra 2 weeks of maturation has helped it!). It had the fruitiness of a west coast/cascade influenced beer, which i enjoyed, but Matt is still tinkering with this recipe (and probably others, so it may change to a more traditional English style. I still wasn't crazy about the Mild ESB, but it's not a bad beer. More variation on the styles due up like a porter and an esb, and the pumpkin's due next week. There is also the possibility of lagers in the future. But don't wait for that, go now and support the new brewer's efforts!!!

So, the new brewer has 6 styles on line now: IPA, PaleAle, Brown, Wit, Mild ESB and Stout (and according to the board, a bunch more in the wings, including a pumpkin). I had the IPA and ESB and my wife had the Wit. All three were decent in flavor (the esb might've been a bit to smokey), but were a bit thin. I'm pleased, though, as these are a definite improvement over the last guy's attempts. I think they deserve a try! Jerk chicken pizza was tasty, as well as the nachos with veggie chili (a long-standing fave here). Jodi did a good job as our waitress, but the way the hostess fills the dining room is weird -- they seat people on practically on top of each other and work out from there, and the 2-tops are too close, especially upstairs where it's not as loud as the bar area. Overall, i'd say that they're getting back on track here. If you haven't been in a while, give it a try...

Stopped in for dinner last week. The new brewer has apparently had a couple of difficulties, but the first batches are due around the week of 9/23...call for exact days and styles. Currently serving guest beers. Hopefully this place'll get back on track! Oh, food and service were okay.

Beers were decent, for the most part, with a nice stout and a great red as highlights. The food was OK. My medium black and blue burger was served WELL. not bad as a stop for a quick beer and a bite on the way back from vacation. Easy to get to off the highway...

Establishment: Weeping Radish, Manteo, NC

This place is pretty cool, cheesy Barvaria aside. Beers were good german styles with a nice balance through the selection. My wife loves the Hefe, and i had a hard time choosing between the Fest and the Black Radish as my fave. Lunch menu was good, with german specialties abounding, and a great german chocolate cake for desert. The service from Pam was excellent, and though we were tucked away in a corner, we were not forgotten. While staying in OBX, we also tried a couple of there bottled selections, and i found that they held up in bottles, also.

Establishment: Outer Banks Brewing Station, Kill Devil Hills, NC

There were 5 on tap when we were there: Olsch, DunkelWeisse, Brown, Porter and IPA. The Dunkel, Brown and Porter were decent, but a little too strong of a roasted quality. The IPA was green (just tapped) and not super hoppy, but decent. The Olsch, my wife's choice, had citrus notes...nice beer. (All were a bit to cold, but as they warmed, the character became more pronounced.) The Food, as noted below, is upscale...delicious and reasonably priced for this fare. All dealings with the staff were excellent. They were well-informed and courteous. Be warned, though, no food served between 3 and 5!

DFH's brews are fantastic, so there were no disappointments in what was tried, but there was only one seasonal on tap - the Aprihop, which was nice. The Shelter Pale, Indian Brown and Raison D'Etre (one of 3 BIG beers on tap) were all excellent. The food was great, except that my ahi was slightly overcooked (after being warned that it was "served rare, and it's the only way they'll cook it"). Service was pleasant, but generally spotty -- it took a bit to get a beer refill, yet the entrees followed the appetizers way too quickly. The beers definitely are worth any other transgressions, though!

For what it is (satellite operation) and where it's at (Terminal 6, Gate 60, as part of a starbucks/sausage stand combo) it's not bad. Pale was ok. But if you have some extra time, the beers at Karl Strauss near Gate 70 were better...

The place was pretty crowded on Saturday with a surf competition in town, but we managed to get a seat at the bar and enjoy a couple of beers and some food. The IPA was great, but the other beers sampled lacked character. Not bad or off, just a little boring. Food (pizza, potstickers) was tasty. Atmosphere and service were excellent...

We had an 8 beer sampler and, except for a couple of standouts (Nut Brown in particular), the beers were solid, but lacked character (maybe they were served too cold?). Food was fantastic though, and the service in the bar area (we didn't have reservations) was friendly and attentive. Cool old building, too. We'd definitely return...

We hung out in the bar area on a Saturday night with a fun cover band playing tunes. The Naughty Nurse (their flagship brew) was just ok, but I settled on the Unfiltered IPA, which was awesome and my wife enjoyed the Amber. Cool atmosphere in a nice old building.

It seems like people haven't been here in a while, but it was a pretty decent place. The decor is nice, even if the neighborhood is iffy. They had eight beers on tap (brown, red, esb, pale, ipa, summer lager, blonde and rasp. blonde) and i've only given them a "good" in selection because there wasn't enough distinction between some of the styles and they probably could have offered the same variety with 4 or 5 (pale and ipa were too close, red and brown were, etc.). With that said, the ESB and Hooker Pale Ale were very good. They open at 4:00 on saturday and we were the first customers of the day, and got great service. We had wings and pizza, and both were decent pub grub. I'd go back again.

Establishment: Black Forest Brew Haus, Farmingdale, NY

The beers here were brewed with a close attention to the German heritage of the owners. There were only 4 on tap (pils, amber, dunkels, export), but they were all pretty solid, although served a bit too cold. The food was pretty authentic German cuisine, mixed with pub standards. We stayed with the German food and were pleased. I have to agree with others that have stated the atmosphere was lacking -- it was pretty dead on a saturday afternoon. Also, the server was efficient, but needed a little personality so that we didn't feel like we were interrupting his afternoon nap...

Definitely liked a lot about this place. Awesome selection of brews and our group got a double sampler and tried all of the eleven beers on tap. Even the uninitiated in our group found something to really enjoy, and everyone had multiple faves. The service was still a little slow, and my order was punched in incorrectly so I had to wait while my companions ate and the kitchen corrected my order. But the server made it up to me by buying me a beer. Food was delicious, though. We also left with a case of IPA, which was on sale at the brewery. gotta love it...
