Establishment:
Harris Grill, Pittsburgh , PA
As mentioned in other reviews, the place was shut and then reopened by new management. The new management are three ex-Big Burrito folks looking to do something of their own. They've got about 20 taps that are rotated often with the exception of a few regulars. They usually have a good selection of beers although they, like so many other micro-brew bars, tend to have too many of the super hopped (IPAs) or overly flavored beers. For some reason these bars haven't figured out that some people like a nice session beer. There's also a decent selection of bottles and a nice happy hour from 4:30 - 6:30 that features 1/2 price drafts, $6 frozen cosmos, and 1/2 price wings. The food is tasty overall with a good selection of appetizers that are nicely presented. The bar staff is cool, friendly, and generally knowledgable about the beers. They've got nice outdoor seating that is generally packed on summer evenings. Finally, the crowd (around the bar at least) mostly consists of twenty-something types with a fair number of regulars and service industry folks. |

Bru Lounge, Pittsburgh, PA
Stopped in this place before a Steeler's game last weekend. Actually, I was supposed to meet somebody at Finnigans next door when I saw a placard in front advertising Chimay or some other decent beer. Finnigans was packed and Bru was empty (aside from the bar) despite having scantily Bacardi babes giveing out free shots. Otherwise I would never have noticed it. They've not spent too much on the furnishings - just a few small tables and some lounging sofa sort of things, but overall a little empty feeling. On to the important stuff, the beer. The beer selection was very good. We had a few bottles of Chimay that were properly served in Chimay glassware and very tasty. The food is nothing special. Think of Bru as sports bar meets lounge meets beer bar. If you're a sports fan who likes good beer in a could-be hip lounge setting, Bru is for you. |
