Establishment:
Whale and Ale, San Pedro, CA
Andrew, the manager, is a warm and cordial host. There are daily specials and the chef, David, is particularly masterful in his creative and tasty soups. Andrew is a true beer enthusiast, who is always searching for the perfect IPA (I have the same quest). Their beer selection is good but could be better, though it has been slowly improving over the years. Their house brews are noteworthy, you can count on Andrew to make sure if Whale and Ale is on the label, it will be of high quality. They have many bottled choices of beer and ales. On draught, they offer two different stouts, a cream ale, three pale ales, two IPAs, one amber ale, three lagers, two ciders, one ESB(Fullers), a "Pub Ale", one scotch ale. Plus the have a fine wine list and a full bar. The service is First Class! In spite of the popularity of the establishment, each customer is fully attended and made to feel as if they were a special guest. It is a very comfortable place to spend a few hours or many hours. Dart boards and live music in the evenings. It is a very authentic High class British pub. |

Establishment:
Second Street Brewery, Santa Fe, NM
This has not only the best IPA in the state, but the best I've had in most states. It is off the beaten path but a short ride from Old Santa Fe. A very friendly staff and a casual atmosphere add to the enjoyment of the ales. There's nothing like sitting in the patio in the afternoon in August and watching the distant thunderstorms in the mountains while noshing on some great food and drinking one of the finest IPA's in the country. |
