Establishment:
New Old Lompoc Pub and Brewery, Portland, OR
Great beer bar, just remodeled adding patio & deck -- at least 7 tables out back. Kitchen is tiny, but looks clean & new, well organized. Basic pub menu, burgers seem good value, salads spendy.
They brew Bald Guy Brown ale, IPA, Outhouse ESB, #69 dark lager, stout, and "LSD" -- a strong ale (typically about 8%abv, only 6.? for summer). Guest taps include Terminal Gravity, Hair of the Dog, Younger's Special Bitter (by Rogue), and other great beers. Also 2 industrial lagers & cider, full bar. |

Establishment:
Old Chicago, Portland, OR
Old Chicago is, of course, not a brewpub. It's a nationwide chain of restaurants featuring a whole bunch of bottled beers -- on the menu, at least. It's rarer to find them all in stock. Good concept, but needs work on the implementation. |

Establishment:
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, Hillsboro, OR
Typical McM's in farmhouse setting w/ 2 barns. Limited parking. Just tried their belgian-style and a guest Belgian, Luvet by Grant's; both were OK. Typical IPAs, stout, porter, fruit, and others were good. Scotch ale was very good. |

Establishment:
Tobacco Roadhouse Restaurant and Brewpub, Durham, NC
Beer available was Bud, Bud lite, Miller, and three of their own -- the server wasn't sure about those. Neither was I, after trying. The red was like Killians, the pale was better, but nothing was amazing. I like the menu (steaks, seafood, etc) and the food is very good, and they have a great outdoor patio (except for the live entertainer who needed help with his pitch). Now they just need some exciting beer. |

Establishment:
T S Elliott's City Market Bistro, Raleigh, NC
Outstanding selection (over 25) of microbrews and imports on draft, more in bottles, and even a few "beer engines" for hand-pulled real ale. Food is upscale, and expensive but worth it. One of the few places that ranks "great" as both a tap-house *AND* restaurant. Menus vary with what's seasonal, and they have a great wine list, too (rare for a great beer bar). A bit pricey, and awfully popular, but worth a visit! |

Establishment:
Carolina Brewery, Chapel Hill, NC
Best microbrewing pub in Central NC, because they don't make boring beers. I wish they had more than 4 at a time, and that it wasn't so busy, smoky & loud for the "Blues & Brews" Wednesdays, but they have very good pizzas & burgers & bar food at reasonable prices. The continuous concrete bar alone is worth seeing. |

Establishment:
Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery, Chapel Hill, NC
Huge outdoor patio on highest building in Chapel Hill (OK, only 3 stories... but, still) with lots of dining tables and a few barstools. Beer is reasonably priced, but food is pricier, so it draws a trendy rather than just microbrew-loving crowd. Beer is good, but typically just 4 types. |

Establishment:
Harrison's Bar and Grill, Cary, NC
Best selection of local microbrews in central NC (best in NC, other than Barley's in Asheville, Blue Ridge Mtns). They love good local beer and prices are reasonable. Also, the clientel gets interesting after midnight! |

Establishment:
Tir na nOg Irish Pub, Raleigh, NC
This is a food & atmosphere restaurant, not a taproom -- as stated, few drafts, no draft micros (but the drafts are good). Go for stone walls, indoor thatched roof, Guiness decor, and tasty food; if you don't mind crowds and high noise levels. |
