Awesome! Awesome! N/A Great Awesome!

Establishment: Cat's Eye Pub, Fells Point/Baltimore, MD

Great bar. Excellent beer selection, including Boddington's on tap. Fun place with good music.

Establishment: Bohager's, Fells Point/Baltimore, MD

More of a place to see live music than anything else. If you're looking to sit and enjoy a 'quiet pint', Fells Point probably isn't your area. Much more of a college-music crowd. If you enjoy live music, though, Bohager's is excellent. Probably better off at BBC or Cap City.

Establishment: Capitol City Brewing Company, Baltimore, MD

Excellent beer. Excellent food. Good service. A staff that knows their product. Excellent beer. Really good beer. Their Kolsch was outstanding. Very refreshing, excellent taste, very good finish. I could drink that all night (wait, I have on many occasions).

Establishment: Four Green Fields (Former Four Provinces), Washington, DC

Guinness and Murphy's on tap. Boddington's usually available. Music. Darts. Great food. I've been in several times and have yet to be disappointed. Always enjoyable.

Good So So N/A So So So So

Establishment: Huntington Beach Beer Company, Huntington Beach, CA

OC Republican yuppies as far as the eye can see drinking bland flavorless beer. Not sure if the location would support a brewpub with better beer. Definitely a place to be seen. Not a place to go drink beer. If you want to hang with the aformentioned crowd, this is the place. If beer is a love, you'd be better off heading to another place. I didn't order any food, but one guy was eating a chicken sandwich he was raving about. Parking is a challenge, walking isn't much better. Service was tolerable enough not to rate 'lousy'. Didn't know product. Had to help server out with their sales pitch to get me to drink their beer of the day. Hint-put it in a glass, put it in front of me, walk away.

So So Good So So Lousy So So

Establishment: Muldoon's Irish Pub, Newport Beach, CA

This place is about as Irish as the Palm trees outside. Decent, but not great selection. They do pour a decent black and tan, but not much else. Our server (and I'm being generous here) knew about as much about beer as a deadman. Barely able to sell me a cold pint on a hot day. Is everything in Orange County this phony?

After a hard day of work on the Hill, a great hideout to go have a liquid lunch. Excellent variety of beers (their Nut Brown Ale never disappoints), good food, and outstanding pretzels.

Beer heaven. At least 500 different beers. They've started carrying some of the local stuff (DeGroens, etc), which only adds to the selection. The food, while not the best in the city, isn't the worst either. My fish & chips were more adequate. But come on, you're not coming here for a meal, unless a nutritious barley shake is your idea of a meal. Not a chain, and you're close enough to Dupont Circle to make getting there fun. They have monthly tastings of different beers. In short, if you're in the mood for beer, but not sure what kind, not a bad place to go.

Establishment: San Jose Tied House, San Jose, CA

Excellent beer selection. When I went, the servers knew their product. When I was there they had an excellent bitter. Food is good, but the appetizers are only average. The menu is pub grub mainly, but they do it well. When we went it was winter (well, winter in California), but I'd imagine the patio area would be great on a warm summer evening. Great location, and fun atmosphere.

Establishment: Britannia Arms, San Jose, CA

Excellent pub. Easier access than the other 'Brit'. All the usual ales, stouts, etc. that you'd hope to see in a British pub. Entertainment most nights. Patio area available for al fresco drinking and smoking. It's located in a strip center, but don't let that fool you. When you think of a warm comfortable place to go drink beer, this is it.

What a brewpub should be. Walk in, see the brew kettle, get seated, enjoy. Had their brown ale (almost as good as Nukie Broon). Food is also very good here. Have an excellent range of stuff. We had their queso dip appetizer (excellent). The fish & chips is of excellent quality. For a chain, they do an excellent job. Definitely worthy of a stop on any "pub-cruise". Not rowdy at the dinner hour, but place takes on an adult feel later on (so you could take the kids to an early dinner without fear of them learning how to speak like sailors).

Excellent, excellent pub. Never had a badly pulled pint of Guinness in 2 years. Sheperd's Pie is oustanding. Live music most nights. Standard Irish drinking songs. Worth a stop if for no other reason than to have a well-pulled pint of the black stuff.

Establishment: Joe Jost's, Long Beach, CA

Joe Jost's is what a neighborhood tavern should be. Warm, friendly, good beer (they always have a good selection), and excellent food. The sausage sandwiches and pickled eggs are musts. Always paired well with a schooner of beer.

Awesome! Awesome! Good Great Awesome!

Establishment: Henry N' Harry's Goathill Tavern, Costa Mesa, CA

If there's a heaven for honest to goodness beer drinkers, this is the place. 121 beers on tap, and peanuts by the bucket. Okay, so you can't get portobello mushroom-infused pasta salad with fat free balsamic vinagrette salad dressing served with 97-grain bread. Who cares? If you like...no, if you love beer, and are anywhere near Southern California, get in the wagon, and make the pilgrimage. Did I mention 121 beers on tap?

If you like beer and are anywhere near 'Bal-mer', stop in! The Scotch Ale is awesome, and their German beers are excellent as well. You'd be hard pressed to get a bad beer in the place. Food is bar food, and is of good quality (about what you'd expect, priced fairly reasonably). If I die I'd be happy to be here.....

More of a restaurant than a brewpub, their food is excellent here. Pale Ale really had a strong hoppy flavor. Cut down the plants and it's got a shot.

So So Lousy So So So So So So

Establishment: Newport Beach Brewing Company, Newport Beach, CA

The fern bar of brewpubs. The beer was bland and flavourless, the service average. The burger I had was okay but not memorable. It's as if Disney got into the brewpub business (contrived doesn't begin to describe it). One positive-the place is very 'family friendly', if that means you get to subject beer-drinking adults to screaming kids. All they need is a playpen for the kids and it's Mickey D's with beer.

So So Good N/A Lousy So So

Establishment: Faultline Brewing Company, Sunnyvale, CA

Went in with a party of 8. Service was terrible. Took 20 minutes to get a pint. Beer was okay, except unless you wanted to go thirsty you had to order 3 at a time, given average consumption time, as well as frequency of visit by said server. I was afraid to order food-figured I'd get it the next day or so. The place has got potential if they'd take care of their customers/drinkers. If you're looking to kill time, not a bad place. If you want a 'quick pint', forget it!

They make a decent brown ale, but their other stuff is just mediocre. They have a good food menu, though-better than most! Not the worst spot in town, not the best.

Excellent place to go. Great selection of imports (Bass, Harp, Guinness), friendly staff. Easy to find (right off of I-280), ample parking. The fish & chips are excellent. They have an outdoor patio area as well for al fresco drinking. If you don't live by beer alone, they also have a wonderful selection of distilled spirits.

Establishment: Rock Bottom Brewery, Bethesda, MD

Expensive, bland, and otherwise mediocre beer. Food was decent. The scene is your typical downtown Bethesda. If you're into the scene this is the place. If you want to drink good beer at affordable prices, then you can probably do better.

Awesome! Good Awesome! Awesome! Great

Establishment: Capitol City Brewing Company, Bethesda, MD

Wonderful place. Usually not too crowded (bad for them, good for me), and the staff is excellent (they know their beer). The Pale Ale, and the Nut Brown Ale are the king here. They have a Kolsch that's also tasty. In terms of food, their pretzels are great, burgers never disappoint, and they even have a great bratwurst. As an added plus, they've been running $2.50 pints for happy hour. Better beer than at Rock Bottom, better service, and easier to get to (two garages very close by).
