Good Good N/A N/A N/A

Establishment: Pittsburgh Brewing Company, Pittsburgh , PA

As you can see most of the locals look down thier noses a Iron City beer. This has been a first generation middle-class tradition for a number of years m because they don't want people to think of them as "blue collar." Take it from a guy from New Jersey who's family has been middle-class and up for six generations, it's not a bad beer compared to the nation brands. It's not Yuengling or Straubs but it's good beer. I.C. light is a great light beer I am told by those who like watery beer. Pittsburgh Brewing is making a beer called Augustiner, under license, which is quite good for a mass produced beer. They also make a lot of the Sam Adams for this region.

Great Awesome! Good Good Great

Establishment: Roland's Seafood Grill, Pittsburgh , PA

I used to work in the Strip district of Pittsburgh and know this place well. Although there many "unusal" restaurnats on the Srrip, this is the best of the normal restaurants. They are close to the three major seafood distributers in the area and have the best raw bar in Pittsburgh. The beer selection is fantastic but you have to go upstairs to get the biggest selection. Most of the beertendrs will give you a small sample of the drafts if you are unsure about a selection.

Establishment: Piper's Pub, Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh traces it's early heritage to Scots & English settlers who supposedly don't eat very good food. This restauranrt/pub puts an end to that myth. Start with any one of a large selection of local or english or Scots beers & ales & stouts from the tap or bottles. Or if you must, the best collection of single-malt scotches I have every seen. Don't miss the smoked salmon or the house sampler of appitizers. The food is verry British and unfamiliar to most of us. I like the steak and kidney pie but there are many wonderful dishes to try. It's cheaper than going to Great Britian for a meal.

Establishment: Max's Allegheny Tavern, Pittsburgh , PA

This is one of top two German restaurants in the Pittsburgh area. It is located in a safe area of the North Side of Pittsburgh. Street parking only and you may have to walk a block or two. Believe me, it's worth the walk. It used to be called Max & Erma's but the "big chain" by the same name copyrighted the name in Pennsylvania they changed to Max's. If you go plan to stay long to eat and drink very well.

This is not a "beer" bar although they do have a moderate selection and you can get some Mexican beers. The food is not very authentic and is overpriced and underspiced. I can walk to this place don't go very often.

So So So So Great Great Great

Establishment: Gene's Last Chance, Pittsburgh , PA

More of a good place to eat rather than a multi-beer bar. The food is generally good to great but the draft beer is limited to the usual national brands and a few of the better local brands.

Establishment: Fox and Hound English Pub and Grille, Pittsburgh , PA

I can walk to and from this bar so my review may be somewhat biased. When it first opened nobody locally thought it would last because of the nearby competition from national chain restaurants and the numerous local pubs favored by people in Western Pennsylvania. They provided a vast selection of beers, a decent menu, good service, many screens to watch sports, and game tables. The combination has attracted many regulars who are in the 25 to 45 age range. If you want to drink unusal brands of bottled beer or sample a good selection of draft this the place to go in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. If you're going to watch a sports event, get there early. There isn't a lot of seating in front of the big screen T.V.

Establishment: Chiodo's Tavern, Pittsburgh , PA

One of the "must see" bars in the Pittsburgh area. The draft beer is not that great but the bottled beer selection is fantastic. If ever you wanted to taste a lot of different bottled beers this is the place to go.

Establishment: Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, Pittsburgh , PA

This is not a great beer place but it is a very good place to eat at reasonable prices. They have the ususal "roun of mine" draft beers and a big selection of bottled beers. You can't get in on the weekends but on weeknights seating is immediate.

The beer is very good. Although they have added "American Food" to the menu you can still get a great German meal.

Great Good Good Good Awesome!

Establishment: John Harvard's Brew House, Wilkins Township, PA

If you want to leave the nearby Hooters to get some really great beers this is the place. The selection changes just enough to make it new each time you go there. If you're in the east hills of the Pittsburgh area this is definately worth a go.
