Establishment:
Rock Bottom Brewery, Denver, CO
Have been to Rock Bottom, 16th St. Mall several times over the past 5 years or so - consistencey has remained the same. Beers are good, I would give them a great, but they are a bit thin on my palette. The Falcon IPA was my favorite tonight, but since it's -8 degrees out that settles it. The food is a notch above pub fare; outstanding burger tonight and onion soup delicious even thought the crusty bread was served on the side and not in the soup. I had the Unsinkable Molly Brown Ale with the house burger and it was an excellent match. I had a sample of the Black Diamond Stoudt and that was very good. Would have had a pint, but was getting very loopy! Needless to say these beeers have a high alcohol contnet! :) The single track copper is another good beer, but I prefer that when I visit in the summer along with their weiss beer. If you're downtown stop in, it's a fun place and when the patio is open it's a great place for people watching. Just don't sit out there when it's -8 degrees. My ears have just defrosted! Slainte |

Barley Creek Brewing Company, Tannersville, PA
After reading some of the reviews I still decided to give it a try. They must be maturing because I enjoyed our time there. Was up travelling with family for a wedding, popped in for dinner with kids; kid friendly tavern. Had a pint of Octoberfest seasonal brew, good but thin, no real "pow". Moved over to the Antler Brown and was much happier. A few of the beers were out, no spider beer. The food was standard pub but very good. I love sweet potato fries, onion soup was good but needed a bigger chunk of bread under the cheese. The French dip was very good; wife had tuna wrap which I finished two days later one a road trip to Ohio - still good. My litle hobbits were excited about the kids meal. enjoyed the crayons and "treasure chest"; they do need to load up with better treasure; Oriental Trading stuff but they were thrilled. The ambience was nice, hand mortised beams, like a big barn. The deck looked like fun, but wife kept me inside. Will probably be back this winter if I get a chance to ski Camelback over Christmas. Hey for the Poconos - you can hang in this place. |
