Establishment:
Fourth Avenue Pub, Brooklyn, NY
I went to 4th Ave Pub on Monday night, MLK day at about 5pm with my boyfriend. This bar (only open since October) is in an area that is obviously in its developmental stage and this is one of few bars in the vicinity. It's near the train, and easy to find, just a few blocks away. I really liked the spot itself, one full length brick wall, a painted black ceiling and red walls, candles like on the tall tables when you walk in, and low lights throughout the place. It has a rustic feel, nice hardwood floors, lots of wood furniture, benches and such, and classic beer signs up on the walls. It's a great spot that with a little embellishment will be a great place to hang out- plus there's a fenced in outdoor area in the back, that'll be awesome come spring time.
The beer selection is incredible, from the draft lines to bottles they had several of my favorite beers. I started with the Allagash White, and then was given a few tastes of various brews I'd never had (courtesy of the bartender in shot glasses designed like mini-beer mugs)... a lot of places would charge you for a sampler, but I was given them to choose what I'd like best, which I really appreciated. I went with the Chimay (a long-time favorite)and later Sixpoint Brownstone, and my boyfriend had a Keegan's Mother's Milk Stout, Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye Ale and an Anchor Porter.
We munched on popcorn from the old fashioned machine at the end of the bar area, chatted with some other patrons and played music from the jukebox. All in all it was a nice way to spend the end of the holiday off of work, great beer and a really low-key atmosphere... I will absolutely be going back and bringing more friends with me! |
