Awesome! Awesome! N/A Awesome! Awesome!

Establishment: Trappeze Pub, Athens, GA

Two local gourmet beer connoisseurs opened Trappeze Pub last December at 269 W. Washington Street in downtown Athens. Trappeze bucks downtown's cheap beer and dollar shooter culture by offering a wondrous selection of the best beers on the planet, and the pub is packed consistently with a wide diversity of beer aficionados enjoying the 29 draft taps and over 200 gourmet bottled selections.

Uninitiated individuals who ask for a light beer at Trappeze will quickly be redirected to a flavorful Spaten Blonde Bock, Terrapin Golden Ale or Victory Prima Pilsener. Trappeze stocks no mass-market, standard American lagers - only excellent examples of the most flavorful, classic, world beer styles are poured. The pub's beer menu is a dozen pages long, and most beer listings include detailed tasting notes regarding color, aroma, flavor and finish.

Establishment: Brick Store Pub, Decatur, GA

I have been going to the Brick Store for years and know the owners and most of the employees. The beer selection is the best in the state, and this pub is fantastic. In response to the review below, NO one at the Brick Store would cheat anyone. If you love great beer, get to the Brick Store.

Establishment: Friends, Helen, GA

Friends Brewing was a contract brewing company that sold Helenboch beer back in the mid 1990's. It never really had a functional brewing location in Georgia, and is now out of business.

Establishment: Copper Creek Brewing Company, Athens, GA

Copper Creek is a small brewpub in the heart of downtown Athens that has some very nice food items and around 4 house beers that rotate. The beers are fantastic. Happy hour is all day Tuesday and before 7pm other days.

Establishment: Sandlot Brewery, Denver, CO

Located on one corner of the attractive Coors Field baseball stadium in Denver is the Sandlot Brewery and Rounders Pub. Sandlot is a test brewpub for Coors (which is located nearby in Golden, CO) and also produces all the Blue Moon that is sold at the stadium. The pub is only open from 11 am to 2 pm Monday through Saturday, and during Rockies games it is closed to the public and only accessible from inside Coors Field for attendees of the baseball game. Try one of the brewmaster special ales that have won numerous awards at the GABF -- these are the beers that make visiting this brewpub worthwhile.

Establishment: Mercury Cafe, Denver, CO

This funky bar and restaurant is a bit off the popular tourist path, so take a taxi if you are heading there after dark. Mercury features six beer taps that are filled with local microbrews and a menu loaded with tasty, hearty, healthy dishes (including many for vegetarians).

Establishment: Brasserie Rouge, Denver, CO

Located right across the street from the Wynkoop brewpub, this European-style restaurant and bar has food items such as buckwheat crepes, smoked salmon, steamed mussels, mesclun salad, halibut, pork chops, duck, steaks, and farmhouse cheeses. The wine list is nice, but the real star here is the selection of imported beers such as Chimay, Hoegaarden, Affligem Dubbel and Tripel, Duinen Ales, Duvel, and many products from the Unibroue Brewery in Canada.

Establishment: Giggling Grizzly, Denver, CO

Loud, smoky, noisy place with a pretty poor, basic beer selection. Not worthy of a visit if you are a fan of craft beer.

Establishment: Wild Wing Cafe, Athens, GA

Wild Wing is located in the former location of Athens Brewing Company. This spot has two large floors with a bar and dining area downstairs and a large bar, dining area, game and music room upstairs. The beer selection is probably the best in Athens. Try the chicken feathers (grilled breast strips) with some of their spicy sauces.

Establishment: Taco Mac, Athens, GA

This new Taco Mac pub in Athens, GA is about two blocks from the north campus of the University of Georgia and has about 60 nice beer taps and about 100 bottled beers. There are also 38 TV's and some really great chicken wings.

Establishment: Flying Saucer, Charlotte, NC

This new Charlotte, NC addition to the Flying Saucer chain is a welcome new beer bar to the city's beer scene. The establishment is very comfortable with sofas up front and pool tables and dart boards in the back room of the bar. The beers were served well and at the appropriate temperatures (I liked the sign behind the bar that said something like "only people who don't know good beer ask for frosted mugs"). The selection of beer was very nice and included most all great beers available in the area -- including the NC craft brews. They run beer specials on a regular basis too -- these are good for your budget.

Establishment: Carrollton Station, New Orleans, LA

This is a great neighborhood establishment with a fine selection of regional brews. There is also wonderful music and fun "pinball" type games from the 1950's.

Establishment: Kerry Irish Pub, New Orleans, LA

The Kerry is a fun place to go in New Orleans for a fresh pint of Guinness and some interesting music. This is a welcome retreat at times from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter on some nights.

Establishment: Burntstone Brewhouse, Athens, GA

Burnstone started out as a brewpub that made their beers completely from extract. The brewer now is doing some great partial mashes, and the beers have started to exhibit wonderful flavors and complexity. The food is good, but the portions are often small. Quite a nice brewpub -- definitely worth many visits!

Establishment: Globe, Athens, GA

The Globe has been one of my favorite bars for several years. The beer selection is great, they have free bread and cheese in the early afternoons, and the manager, Jennifer, is wonderful. A very social bar that is very relaxing.

Establishment: Poets Restaurant and Bar, Lafayette, LA

Beers were all clean, but very light in flavor. All the beers needed more speciality grains and hops in my opinion. Pub is right next door to a bar with a good selection of beer for the area.

Establishment: Churchill's Pub, Savannah, GA

Nice pub in the center of Savannah with a smallish, but nice imported beer selection. Good pub food and darts. This bar was featured in the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."

Lousy So So Good So So So So

Establishment: Mill Bakery Eatery and Brewery, Savannah, GA

I've had beer here that was either contaminated or had little or no flavor. Not an impressive beer in the bunch -- very mainstream. Not worth visiting in Savannah if you like flavorful brews.

Establishment: Oglethorpe Brewing Company, Savannah, GA

Really cool brewpub in the center of downtown. The beers could be more flavorful, but not bad for the deep South. Cajun cookin' is nice. Their fall pumpkin ale last year was great.

Establishment: Laughing Pines Brewery and Restaurant, Slidell, LA

House beers are a little light, but clean. Guest beers are usually great. The place is really nice and homey with a country house atmosphere.
