Establishment: The Banshee, Scranton, PA

A nice old building, used to be a mortuary I think. This is a good location right off the highway from 81 if headed south. We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner. Sandwiches were good and priced right, $6-8 for most items. About 20 beers on tap and though many are the generic stuff most distributors have been pushing lately (Stella, Blue Moon, Boddingtons) there were some nice choices, Spaten lager, Franzikaner Weizen, Rogue Kells Lager, Mad Anthony Ale and Beamish Stout to name a few. The Beamish and the Mad Anthony were in fine shape.

Establishment: Egan and Sons, Montclair, NJ

The "home brewed" beer here is seemingly contract brewed for them although they were brewing from extract at one point and may still be. The quality of the beer is average across the board, the Czech Pils (despite the last reviewer) is actually pretty good (I lived in Bavaria for 2 years and know what good pils tastes like), maybe even a bit too hoppy. The pale ale is pretty good too, very middle of the road, not an IPA. There is certainly a decent selection of other drafts avilable but it would be nice to see them get a few more micros in place of the macros.

The best part about Egan's is the food and the building itself - they did a great job fixing the place up. I've eaten here twice - the Lamb and Guinness stew and the chicken pie, friends had Bangers and Mash and a Salmon special all were very good to great.

What a find, very much a kind of diamond in the rough. Nothing else anywhere around here, but a very nice scenic area. Excellent homemade food selection, good soups and well kept beers. Food are a Eastern European/German style menu, beers are Spaten Okt, Dinkel Acker Pils, Erdinger Hefe and Youngs Oatmeal on draft, all served in proper glassware.

Establishment: Krogh's Restaurant and Brew Pub, Sparta, NJ

The quality of the beer at Krogh's has been pretty stable now for some time, seasonal selections have been quite good, including some lagered beers which is always nice to see. They don't have much in the way of Happy Hour or special pricing unfortunatley but at least you can still get a sandwich or a personal pizza for $8 - $9.

Excellent beer, most very true to style and a wide range, doppelbock, stout, hefeweizen, summer wheat, esb, pilsner. Good to see both lagers and ales. Very nice location, good view of Seneca Lake

some of the beers were not really true to style, but they were still good beers. The Hefe was very lemony...Service was very good, especially for a good sized party (12). Food is good and so are prices.
