Establishment: Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill, Steamboat Springs, CO

Probably the best quality beer in Steamboat, but there's not a lot of variety now is there? On the whole, slightly above average beer for a local micro. Can't really knock the food, nice sized portions.

Establishment: Suppenkuche, San Francisco, CA

Exceptional German selection on tap. Very good traditional German food, which is hard to do well. Best of all they have boots!!! 2 liter boots full of beer, you gotta love it.

Establishment: Rogue Ales Public House, San Francisco, CA

Excellent selection of Rouge taps, including an Imperial IPA. Hazlenut Brown Nectar is still probably the best brown Ive ever had. Good location in North Beach. As close as you can get to going to Oregon.

Establishment: Toronado, San Francisco, CA

Best selection hands down in SF (~60 taps). Even had the rare Devil's Advocate from New Belgium. Great collection of Nor Cal micros, along with Germans and Belgians. Definitely on the seedy/dive side but I like its character. For the serious beer drinkers only.

A step above a Rock Bottom but that's about it. Solid winter bock and pretty good marzen.

Not too many places I know of that serve micro and tapas. Gotta give it credit there. Good happy hour hang out in SOMA.

Definitely the best in Boulder. Excellent selection and quality. Java porter was out of this world. Incredible ginger beer and I hate ginger. The Scotch, brown and Imperial IPA were all exceptional. Great dead head hippie atmosphere too.

Establishment: Walnut Brewery, Boulder, CO

Think of Rock Bottom, but cheesier and below average beer. Just about all of them were on the thin side. Cajun salmon was actually surprisingly good. Lots of students. Waitress screwed up the order a couple of times but it just wasnt her day.

Was surprised to see they had won so many GABF medals. Not that the beers were bad, they were definitely solid, just expected a bit more.

Slightly above average for a local micro. Good price on taps, excluding the Arrogant Bastard they had, but at that ABV, its understandable. Fish and chips were ok but bartender was kind of an arrogant bastard himself.

Kinda like a Rock Bottom, with with marginally better beer. Location on the water was nice.

Bar was kinda seedy but good selection and quality micros. Dug the porter big time. Food was a pleasant surprise, had a Thai chicken entree which is pretty rare for pub food.

Not a ton of beers on tap, which was a bit dissapointing, but solid beers. I actually think theyre pale ale is better out of their cans. Old Chubb is a good Scotch ale and the food was pretty good. As far as I know, they are the only brewery hand-canning their micros, and despite what you might think, they are good out of the can. They used to serve them on Frontier Airlines, but I guess no longer.

Selection was decent, but beers were just ok. Picked up a bottle of the oak barrel stout that is supposed to be pretty good. Getting food was a mistake.

Better than average tap selection for a local micro. At least two were hand pulled, including their normal IPA Punjabi. They called the cask version Handjabi, which was about the best name for a beer Ive ever heard. Picked up a pumpkin ale in bottle from them as well. Pizza with the cracked peppercorn crust was awesome.

Establishment: New Belgium Brewing Company, Fort Collins, CO

One of the most visually appealing breweries I have seen. Take the tour and go upstairs. Excellent variety on tap and you can get rare beers I havent seen anywhere else (La Folie or Devil's Advocate - if they still have it). I have a lot of respect for this brewery as it is actually wind powered by turbines in Wyoming. They are vey environmentally concious and give back to the community. My only complaint is that they arent open too late, 5 or 6, and no food. Still very much worth the trip though.

Establishment: Falling Rock Tap House, Denver, CO

One of the best tap selections I have seen (~75). Great collection of bottles on the wall too. Tons of local brews but a solid selection of German, Belgain, etc. By far the best variety Ive seen in the Denver area.

Great dive bar in the middle of an upscale neighborhood. Was pleasantly surprised to see Arrogant Bastard, even if it was in bottle. Good place to kill a few hours between a wedding ceremony and a rehersal.

Pretty standard as far as chain microbreweries go. Good, but nothing special. If youve been to Rock Bottom, youve been to Two Rows. If youre looking for a big selection, hit up Flying Saucer downtown.

Good selection of Belgian beers in a cozy, pub environment. If youre looking for a wider selection though, hit up Flying Saucer downtown.

Went here back in December of 04, while on business. What a diamond in the rough. This place has an excellent selection of taps (~75) that is on par, if not more than Falling Rock in Denver, CO. Food was decent, but thats not why you come here. Bartenders were great. Get the build-your-own sampler and enjoy.

Establishment: Pike Brewery and Pub, Seattle, WA

You may think this place wouldnt be legit since its actually in a mini-mall type area just off of Pike's Market. However, this place is worth stopping by, if not for the food then definitely for the beer. Had the sampler and all were very good. Oatmeal stout was the best, but all styles were quality. Even had guest brews Lindemans on tap. Food was excellent, had salmon stuffed with crab and shrimp dressed with a spicy coconut suace. Seafod was as fresh as it comes. My favorite so far in Seattle.

Establishment: Pyramid Alehouse, Brewery and Restaurant, Seattle, WA

While on business in Seattle I checked out Pyramid because I had heard of them before out east. Never really been impressed with their beers, so didnt have much expectations coming in. Was pleasantly surprised with the Snow Cap (seasonal winter) and a barleywine on tap (fairly rare) but that was about it. The rest of the beers are slightly above average and Im still in disbelief that their Hefe won gold at the GABF. The judges must have been paid off, their hefe is average at best. Food was solid, calimari and sausage platter was decent. Service wasnt a problem, but was sitting at the bar. All in all, Pike's has better beer quality from what Ive seen.
