Awesome! Good N/A N/A Awesome!

Establishment: Hair of the Dog Brewing Company, Portland, OR

Good luck finding this place, even with directions! This really isn't a destination brewery. It's located in a hidden low rent neighborhood and is only concerned with the beer, not public visits. That being said, if you like strong beer, it doesn't get any better. If you visit the brewery, pick up a case, drink half and cellar the rest. It's a little pricey, but if you buy belgians, buy this instead. The 2003 Doggie Claws seasonal was so good it's deserving of world class status, and it wasn't even aged! And of course you can never go wrong with a bottle of Fred. Just one beer and you'll be a converted "Dog Head."

Great Good Good N/A Great

Establishment: Bridgeport Brewing Company and Public House, Portland, OR

A Portland Microbrew institution. Good down-to-earth local crowd. Located in old brick building in industrial neighborhood, but close to everything and has alot of character. Casual beer swillin' atmosphere with pizza and pretzels. Everything just feels right. Bring a sober driver and stick around for awhile.

Great Good N/A N/A Good

Establishment: New Belgium Brewing Company, Fort Collins, CO

Tasting room/gift shop only. Had the sampler tray (free) and it was definately worth the visit (if you happen to be in Fort Collins anyway). The Trippel is my favorite (even if it comes off as an american belgium, it's still a great beer). I also like the Sunshine Wheat and the Black Ale is interesting as well. Fat Tire amber is good, but so are 1000 others I've tried. Avoid brewery in early morning or late afternoon. They had standing water (like a moat) running around the building and told me that two employees were sick with west nile virus.

Good Lousy Good Good Good

Establishment: Gordon Biersch Brewing Company, San Francisco, CA

Yuppie singles crowd (San Diego location). Valet parking?...Come on! That alone should tell you what your experience on the inside will be like! Most people look like they're just happy to be seen drinking microbrew, rather than care what it tastes like. Sure, the beer is OK, but is better in the bottle. It might taste better at the restaurant if they didn't serve it SO DAMN COLD! I guess when you're serving mediocre beer to San Diego Yuppies, who cares? Might as well serve'm heineken in a frozen mug...they'd be just as happy! The food is good though and you'll always find some quality eye-candy!
