A very impressive establishment and such a nice draw (pun intended) for a town like Hays. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for the best beer and food around. Gerald and his wife are to be commended for running an outstanding operation. The beer was fresh and it's hard to believe that they can keep over 6 different types of beer flowing in a place like Hays. I tried the Pale Ale, the IPA, and the stout. All were top-notch but the IPA in the large Lb glass was simply outstanding! This is a unique but yummy IPA (hops were not as strong as traditional IPA and color was darker too). Great crafting here!
The menu had some nice options including a portobello mushroom burger and other veggie options that always go so well with good beer.
We were in town with a larger group for a weather conference and I think almost everyone enjoyed themselves. On our second night we had some issues with the bartender, Chad, when a larger group came in for beers just before last call. Our server was happy to work with the group and provide us with some fine brew. However Chad was not very happy about that even though none of us had heard the last call. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end and we were all served one last round. Sorry we kept you later than expected, Chad.
I think the addition of some comfortable furniture ( comfy chairs and couches like Flying Saucer pubs) would be a really nice touch for Lb. On the other hand, that might keep people staying around and having a good time (and spending more money) even longer. Something to think about. Thanks Gerald. If I'm ever up in Hays again, I'll be stopping by!
