Establishment: Hopworks Urban Brewery, Portland, OR

This is a rather large, clean, bright, casual facility with a nice sized bar and lots of hightop tables. There is also plenty of dining tables and a pool table. It seemed and I hear that the place is generally often busy, and it was indeed on this Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed all the bicycle frames displayed above the bar. My friend Megan and I tried a very unique pizza called the Cascade Mountain Range which included pears, blue cheese, tri-tip steak, and caramelized red onions. Amazingly, it was really good! I enjoyed the IPA and the pale ale. 06/14/09

I've visited this place twice now and have been very pleased with the experiences. The NorCal IPA is my favorite. Perfect! Great blend of hops, medium bodied and smooth finish. The blackened chicken strips were juicy and grilled perfectly. 05/22/09 1:30pm

Establishment: Tugboat Brewing Company, Portland, OR

I would recommend visiting this place for the atmosphere above all. The staff (Linsel and Megan) were very friendly, witty, and helpful. I found the customers (namely Jason and Derek) were just as friendly to converse with while sitting at the bar. I tried a couple of beers produced at Tugboat, although they offer brews from other great establishments as well. The Hop Red was tasty but was rather thin in body. Some other of their own beers on tap were the Hop Gold, amber, porter, and Chernobyl Stout. Beware: check for business hours as this place is generally only open during evenings. 06/13/09

Kind of an upscale coffee-shop relaxed atmosphere with artsy decor. Both of the IPAs on tap seemed high in hops and maybe alcohol, but one was really smooth like a cask-conditioned ale with a slight floral aroma. The porter was very chocolatey and had very good body and head. I didn't care for the Mass Transit Amber which seemed to me to be sour, soapy, and dirty.

Imperial Smoked Porter was very good with a sweet, slightly smoked tone; Blackjack Porter was more mild and good for many pours; Deep Cover Brown seemed slightly smokey and was rather weak in taste and body, but good for many pours.

I need to return here someday. All I tried was the pepperjack sticks, which were good with salsa. The Flashpoint IPA with rye was excellent; nitro Red Alert was aso really tasty with mild hops and a supersmooth finish; Igniter Pale Ale seemed great (reminded me of Sierra Nevadas pale); Kiltlifter Scottish Ale was fun with a mild smokiness; Strike Team Oatmeal Stout was very sweet, dark, smooth with a thin body.

What a cool place to go check out. The tasting room staff was awesome. My favs were the stout (at 11%, chocolatey) and Red Truck IPA. The pilsner tasted like Coors to me, but tren again I don't really care for light beers that much. PAL and Farmers Friend were okay. See this place for the people (customers and staff)!

This place was super busy. I tried three beers: Broken Oar, Land's End Amber, and Standing Wave Pale Ale. The pale ale was my pick. I even took a growler with me. Excellent service. Upbeat atmosphere. I hope to return.

After hearing much about this place I was almost expecting more. It's a nice and casual environment with a cool patio for those beautiful days when the sun is warm and bright. I didn't catch the bartenders name but she was helpful and friendly, even though it was really busy at the time. The Oatmeal Stout was maybe may favorite: not too heavy with a dark, rich flavor. Blur IPA was strong, bitter, with almost an apricot flavor (maybe due to the hops). Sacrilicious Ale was smopth and creamy with a somewhat soapy but flavorful taste. Seabright Amber had a light body, smooth, mild flavor, good for casual/social drinking (pitcher worth with friends!). 11/28/08 2pm

When I walked in, the smell of the place was good with a clean and tasty aroma from the kitchen. There are lots of wooden fixures in the place with a mild darker lighting. I tried 2 of the beers: the Lompico Gold IPA was average, medium bodied with a semi-harsh finish; the Last Chance Stout had a good dark flavor, strong, and creamy (8%). Overall I would rate this establishment is basic and average, but worth the stop if you happen to be there.

Very friendly and helpful staff. I loved the IPA and took a growler with me even though I live 5 hours away. Check on the schedule for dates for live music.

Kind of a cool little establishment. The food menu is from Cruiser's, the restaurant next door owned by the same folks. Limited seating. Worth the stop if in town.

I've been here twice and have enjoyed it. This time I had a hamburger followed by New York-style cheesecake. I had an IPA and a porter which were both good. This place is small, cute, and has character.

Friendly staff in the tasting room. Renegade IPA was very hoppy with a medium body and pleasant flavor. Estes Park Porter was rather weak in flavor and body. Samson (oatmeal) Stout was on the sweeter side but really nice flavor. Wapita Brown Ale was a strong, dark ale that was probably my favorite for a few pints.

Establishment: Walnut Brewery, Boulder, CO

I visited this place twice over a 2 week period and was enjoyed each visit. This open, brick warehouse building has a few flatscreen TVs great for watching sporting events which is what was going on this particular Sunday. The staff was friendly and helpful. I tried three beers on tap: The Devils Thumb Stout was probably my favorite which was on nitro, smooth, rich and unfiltered; Indian Peaks Pale Ale was slightly hoppy with a light body and clean flavor; Big Horn Bitter had more kick and was of course more bitter than the pale. Walnut is a part of the Rock Bottom chain so bring your Mug Club card. 10/7 2pm

Tried a sampler tray of all seven beers on tap. None were impressive. Even though the stout was maybe the most pleasing, I ended up ordering a pint of the pale ale which had a heavy floral aroma. Seemed to be a hang out for the locals which was nice to see. I doubt I’d return for the beer or the food, but the location wasn’t bad.

I doubt I'd return here on purpose since I wasn't overly impressed in any manner. The steak dinner was the best part of the meal but the beers weren't all that great. The seasonal Nut Brown was much better then the Allegator Ale. Both had a watered down taste. The happy hour two for one glasses are a good deal.

Establishment: Papago Brewing, Scottsdale, AZ

I’ve been here several times in the past and have had quite a few positive experiences. This one was no different. I was severed within minutes by a veteran of the establishment, Chelsea, whom had severed me a few times in the past and is always a pleasure and is knowledgeable of many beers. Papago BC is a definite hang out for the locals. The Papago Hopfather was quite hoppy with a medium body, a dry finish and a medium filtered appearance. Excellent for hop lovers. The Pizza Port Red Shark Ale was smooth with a very tasty flavor and medium body. Impressive red. Papago’s El Robusto was a dark, semi-sweet, full flavored, heavy tasting, dry finish porter. Schizengiggles (Eisbock) was high in alcohol, sweet scent, smooth finish, dark amber appearance, with a mild barley wine taste. Recommended for an evening finale.

I stop in every time I'm in town. The Pine Tar Stout had good flavor, smooth taste and finish like a milk stout, although the owner said it wasn't a milk. Prescott Palr Ale was somewhat bland in taste, little body and little hoppiness. Dubbel-a-tion had a strong taste (marzen/amber) and a surprising finish. My all-time favorite is always the Pertified Porter. Can't go wrong with that one if you enjoy dark beers.

This slighty upscale place is always a nice stop when I'm in town. The food is quite good and the beers are consistant. I had the potstickers this time, which were very tasty, but a bit on the pricey side. They had two stouts on tap, both were excellent in flavor, color, and texture. The Copper John ale was a bit fruity (apricot).

The menu was primarily brewpub items with a few exceptions. Brown: 5.6, full flavor, dark, medium body, great overall. IPA: 6.3, semi-fruity, thin body, not very hoppy, cloudy appearance. Scottish Ale: 7.0, thin tasting, full bodied, excellent flavor. Robust Porter: 6.3, light bodied, lightly sweet, full flavored. Oatmeal Stout: 5.6, full flavored, thin body.

This is my top resource for finding microbrew bottles. I drive two hours about 3-4 times a year primarily to visit this place. Papago has an increadible amount of beers on tap. I tried one of there own yesterday (El Grande Nutz) which I enjoyed greatly. I would have had more but I had to drive back home for two hours.

Not my favorite brewery in town but pretty good and worth a stop. I preferred the two darker brews they had. A small tasting room with a friendly bartender and cool tshirts for sale.

The bartender was very helpful and friendly, and offered a tour of the place without me asking. Thanks Brent! I had the sampler tray which served 8 that day and I believe my favorites were their popular styles which they bottle (90 and 5). I brought some home with me to Arizona and I'll be on a mission to see if I could find it around home. Lots of cool gift items there too!

The way this place is set up is smart and practical. It's divided in half with almost a formal dining area on once side and casual both/hightop/bar area on the other. Thay have individual widescreen TVs in each booth which I was impressed with. The food was outstanding and the beers were incredible. They had 7 on tap, all with very clean finishes and lots of flavor. Great job Alan! I wish I had time to stick around for more. I shall return!
