Wow, what a surprise this place was! One of the best IPA'a I've ever had and the pork tacos were delicious. The service was top-notch, and the place clean and friendly. I even parked right in front on the street. I mean, nothing about my experience could have been better at LB. I highly recommend a stop overnight in Hays just for this place.
Not a fair review really as they were about to close, but from what I tried, it looks like a first rate bar. The IPA was very good and the atmosphere excellent. The bar maid was cleaning the taps after last call, and generally sweating the details about cleanliness of the bar area. This, in my opinion, is what separates the great from the mediocre ... DETAILS! My local brewpub doesn't clean as fastidiuosly and it tastes like it. The kitchen looked spotless as well. I'll definately come again when I have the chance and more time.
Without being gushing, I think this is the way it ought to be. The cask IPA was just great and the Scotch ale sample was very good. Couldn't get a pint, as it's a strong beer and it was my turn to drive. The fish and chips was typical, but the server was friendly and prompt and helpful with directions to the Wine and Hop homebrew shop. It might be a pain to get to if you are traveling by Madison, and we were there in off hours so parking wasn't an issue, but I could see it would be if busy. Give it a shot, you just will not be disappointed here! Wish I lived closer.
They didn't have the pale ale or the ESB, but the brown was good as well as their red ale. The whitefish sandwich is worth the trip by itself, and the beers are solid so when in the area give it a chance. They are doing good work here.
I was pleasantly surprised here. I only had two beers, both their Big Red IPA, and it was very, very good. It came served in an eighteen ounce glass, which I suppose is to ensure that you get a true pint of beer without spilling any down the sides of a pint glass. I had the burger with salsa on it, and it also was great. If I didn't live 900 miles away, I would definitely come here more often. I-80 users should stop by here for lunch or dinner. Keep up the good work Big Horn.
Hey I didn't think it was bad! I thought the pale ale was best and a good beer overall, followed by the stout. I thought the Scottish ale was ok, but the red ale needed put out our misery. The fish special on Friday was great, and the blonde waitress with pigtails was worth future trips all by herself.
Only had time for a couple quick beers, but I thought it would be worth subsequent visits. I liked the pale ale better than the brown, and they were out of stout, but any micro in which the bartender partakes of the product gets my endorsement. Keep up the good work!
