If you are in the area, definitely come here. THIS IS A BREWPUB, contrary to confusion in beer newspapers. I was all set to have to buy bottles or growlers, but then saw with my very own eyes the thriving pub. The Centennial Ale was very nice. The Crude Porter was great, exactly what a porter should be. The Three Hop was well-balanced -- not three times the hops, just hopped at three stages.
We must have arrived during a dead time 'cause we got little attention. The Possum Porter was a stout, but didn't taste like 6.6%. The IPA (6.8%) was cloudy. It was hoppy, of course, and tasted cleaner than some. Couldn't stay, and didn't see a reason to do so.
The oatmeal stout was a joy to watch settle. Drinking it was also a joy because it was oh-so-creamy! I could drink this for breakfast if it weren't for the 6% alcohol content. The Oktoberfest was also good. The Sequoia was hoppy and clean, the Tamerack Amber kind of sneaked up on me and it warming.
This place used to be Butterfields and there is another Sequoia brewpub in town now.
Certainly impressive. Now for the beer. I tried a taste of the Best Bitter and decided it just didn't hit the mark of a true British bitter, so I purchased a pint of Porter. It was good, clean-tasting at first, with a hint of coffee taste. However, it was way over carbonated and once I finished, my tongue had a residue of either treacle or hop pollen, not sure. My partner had a pint of Harvest Ale, which he enjoyed, but also thought it had that bite from overcarbonation. It was definitely hoppy (a good thing). All in all, I got the impression I would have the same experience drinking the bottled product as the draft.
We were staying next door at the Maverick, so couldn't resist to watch some sports, drink some local brew and eat. Being homebrewers and brewpub enthusiasts we were underwhelmed by the beers. No balance, either too hoppy, too sweet or both. Don't take me wrong, the beers were drinkable, just not worth hanging around for another round.
This is only the second brewpub I would give this kind of rating to. I was tempted to try all 5 cask ales, but stuck to just the stout (yummmm) and the session beer (leftover fuggles). TRUE British ale from cellar temperature to beer engines to imperial pint glasses. The head on the seesion beer was classically less (London style), but the creamy head on the stout came from the beer, not added by gas. We were lucky that there was still some quiche in the kitchen, not only because we were starved, but that it was delicious. I shall return!!
Certainly glad I made a point of coming here. The Shakespeare Stout is very good, as well as the Triple Jump pale ale -- NICE balance. Very good beers here and lots of fun people. Definitely a beer lovers place. Apparently the food is very good as well.
We tried the cask conditioned ESB. Nice, but a little sticky. Not what we were looking for. I think the Irish angle to the beers made the ESB taste that way. Anyway, didn't want to hang around to find out at $4.25 a pint to see if we were wrong.
Made a quick stop here. We should have cleared our afternoon to stay here! The beers are very tasty and a big variety. Just ask for what you like in a beer and I think they can give it to you. The brewmaster is very informational and the place is just wonderful.
Stopped in thinking we might stay nearby. Probably should have because the beer is so good. Peanuts everywhere and very good beer. I foung the porter and stout a little over carbonated, but swilling it around took care of that. My husband loved the IPA, whether being organic has anything to do with it or not. The owner and bar staff as well as the clientele were very sociable and even made a point of helping us find accomodation. If we're ever back this way again...
We went on a Monday night to try the beers and pizza and watch the football. The service was great, with lots of samples before we ordered our pitcher. The clientele was fun and friendly. The pizza was not what we personally care for (thin, thin crust), but the ingredients were good. The beers were good, although they tended to be on the sweet side. The Spencer Creek Amber had a clean taste, so that's what we washed the pizza down with. All-in-all, not a bad place to spend some time and try a variety of beers.
This is Cascade Lakes Bwg Co. The beers are premium. The Blond Bombshell is lighter than Coors Light, but has much more taste! My husband and I have different tastes, so I preferred the Monkey Face Porter to his IPA, vice versa. Didn't stay for food, but would have liked to stay for a few more pints...
This is worth a stop if you are in the area. The atmosphere is friendly and definitely casual as it is aimed at racing fans with their eyes glued to monitors. The apparent favorite is the ribs. I had a hankering for the pulled pork, the Friday night special, but it was dry. Even with abundant supplies of bbq sauces, it was still a lump in my stomach. Maybe they should use some juice to keep it a little more digestible, flavorful and delectible. The beer was quite drinkable. Not filtered, but still was more in the positive column because it wasn't frigid, served in frozen mugs or over carbonated. The way they serve it is the way it should be done.
Probably deserves a better rating. It's a very comfortable place to drink beer. NO frozen glasses and a special glass for my porter. Ummmm. The brews are from 3 separate breweries, or more. They also do case sales. The selection from here was very tasty. Could have stayed all afternoon. After a couple of pints I would have to have to because I wouldn't be fit to drive! They also serve Rogue beers from Newport, OR and Eugene City. The customers were quite pleased, even if it did cost $4.50 a pint plus tax.
I believe the beer to be GREAT if not better. We stopped by on a Monday when they are closed, but RC just happened to be there and gave us a taste of an 8% Pale Ale before he left. Check the WEBSITE, it is being updated, for opening hours. They are open most afternoons and several evenings, or whenever someone's around. To find this place, you have to go to the west side of the tracks. Follow Railroad to Dollar Way, then turn onto Prospect and follow it all the way to the cul-de-sac. Iron Horse is on the left. Many extablishments in town also serve their product either by the 6-pack or on draft.
I don't like to use the term "awesome," but this place deserves better than "very good." This place has been in business since 1995. Business hours are Thursday: 1-5pm, Friday thru Sunday: 11-5pm, or anytime you want to gather there, just call (509)-781-1181.
We tried this place once before, but it wasn't during opening hours. Very glad we tried again. There must have been about 15 beers on the menu. We sampled 9 of them -- all clean, clear and very nice to savor.
The brewery and bar are located in a wine/beer/food area in the middle of wine country. To find this establishment, take Prosser exit #82, make a right, follow the RR tracks till you find a crossing. After that, make a right and look for Whitstran Brewing Company.
***The brewery is in the process of opening a brewpub in town this summer at 1427 Wine Country Road.***
Came here early Friday afternoon. People of ALL ages were here. There were 8 beers on the menu, but only 4 "on." The British Pale Ale was fine, I didn't want to face the smoked porter, although I love porters. The place obviously caters to families, serve their own brewed root beer and have a large lunchtime business even though most people don't imbibe at that time. Lots of doggy bags going out the door, so the portions are large. I have to learn to ask ahead of time not to get a frosted glass! The establishment opened July, 2nd, 2007 and is closed on Sundays. Take time to stop by to break up the long drive on I-80, wherever you are headed.
NOT a brewpub. The place goes by the name of Shadows Brewing Co.; however, when I asked when they last served one of their own brews, the waitress said, "about a year ago." The selection of Odells and New Belgium is very nice (and pricey -- go during happy hour). Food is fine.
These guys are serious about GOOD beer and variety. They are friendly, provide great service and make the whole experience fantastic. Good beer, good food, good company. Definitely worth a 50 mile detour!
Check the WEBSITE. This may be an epitaph or a revitalization. We stayed at the hotel and walked downstairs for a brew and dinner. Very nice. The hotel is a registered building and has history as well as ammenities at a reasonable price. The beer selection was fantastic. We drank the porter and pale ale, but opted not to drink from the frosted mugs (good grief!). Hope these guys get someone to renew their lease, 'cause it is nice beer in a neat hotel. The bar & grill will shut this Saturday... temporarily?? Good luck, Trevor.
The beers may not be the best thing about this place, but the setting is cool. Get there during Happy Hour when beers are only $1.25 a pint!!! To find this place, go north of the freeway to Columbia Place North Mall area. Look for the Chuck & Cheese. "Kimo's" is in the back along the river.
