Parking was no problem; but I was there at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon. Maybe at night it's a little tight but not for me. We parked right in front. The waitperson was fantastic. She obviously had been there since their opening or had been well trained. She knew the hops in the IPA and also of the hop shortage last year. The IPA is great. So is the Stout. I also had the chips and 3-dip. Guacomole and salsa are great, lots of garlic in the salsa. The cheez-wiz type dip, not for me. Definitely worth a stop.
Tried the sampler. The pale Ale was the best of the group (contrary to last review) Cheese and Sausage Soup was too salty for me. (it's made with Cheddar Cheese, so what did I expect?) One of the other's in the sampler was also very good for a light beer. The Honey Lager, I believe. The rest were pretty non-descript. Most were Lagers and I'm not a big lager fan. The Stout are served way too cold. There were three on tap when I visited. Besides the Iish, there was also a Coffee and Whiskey. The Whiskey Stout was the best of the 3. Memorabilia is quite extensive, worth a visit just for that.
Stopped by on my way to the airport not knowing what to expect. I didnt have time to take the tour but whoever I spoke to was nice enough to give me a sample of the Amber before disappearing. It was very good. Hopefully, I wil get back to try more. They have a small retail area where on can buy six packs and brew-gear. If I hadn't been going through airport security, I'd have tried the IPA.
Yesterday (9/20/09) was the last day opened to the public at the ActiveSpace location. They will spend the next two weeks dismantling the equipment (it's been sold) and moving out. (ActiveSpace seems to not allow active businesses). There are plans to buy a larger brewing system and find a new location; although nothing is definite at the moment. Hopefully, it won't be too long of a wait.
I was running late and in a hurry; so I wasn't able to spend as much time here as I would have liked. I only had time for a couple appetizers. I parked on the street and ended up two blocks away. The place is hard to miss if one is just looking for a sign. It wasn't until I got inside that I realized that there must be parking behind the building, off the next street over. The Amarillo IPA and the Oatmeal Stout were both very good. The soup of the day was a Guatamalan Chicken Soup; very tasty. I was slightly disappointed in the "Chicken Lollipops" with Thai Sauce. I was expecting something similar to Satay. They were drumsticks. While good for what they were; had I asked, I would have ordered something else. I wish I had had time for a sandwich. The lunch menu looked pretty good.
IPA and Scotch Ales were both great. IPA, great hops, Scotch, great malt. Light Squared not very good according to my BUD drinking companion. Reuben was good. The beer soup was also tasty. The Nachos were pretty bland. I think there may have been 3 or 4 pieces of meat chucks, very mild and not too much salsa and maybe a tsp of sour cream.
Stopped by for lunch before heading over to U of Del. A little confusing getting into the place. The obvious doors are labeled exit only. MD Crab Soup was fantastic; really, really spicey. Reuben and Pulled Pork Sandwiches were both great. Great selection of beer. IPA was great. Didn't have time to sample much more.
I think someone forgot to put the hops in the IPA. The Porter was pretty. French Onion soup better than my last visit. Blackened Talapia was excellant. Server was great.
The IPA, Double IPA and the Wee Heavy Cask were very good. I was told the Kolsch was also pretty good. The wings appetizer with either sauce were great; crispy and just amount of spice on both the BBQ and Spicey Thai sauces.
Beers were great. I tried the Lager and Dunkel, both very good. Reuben sandwich was excellant. Portion size more than ample for me. Dressing comes on side so the sandwich is not soggy when delivered. Tomato Basil soup was great. French Fries were actually fried and hot when served. Beer selection is only good because of only 4 selection. Five if one includes something with the word "light" in the name.
The Cole Porter was really good (I get it now). The IPA, excellant. The server needs to be refreshed in the difference between hops and malt. Asked a question about hops in the Proving Ground and I was told about the malt.
I was really impressed. This is a great country setting and the folks are great. The Jackass IPA was fantastic; great hop taste. Old Tom was just as good. In fact, I can't remember which one I preferred and have to go back and try again. The hours are firm. "Closing at 5" means closing at 5. This is out of respect for the neighbors and SnoCo small business rules. If one has the chance to get to Arlington, forget the casino and go to Skookum.
Didn't get awesome just because I was there with the Giants game crowd and it kind of limited what could have been a fanstastic visit.
This was the last place I visited while in SF. Stopped by on my way to the airport just before a Sunday Giant's game. The pregame crowd is wonderful. It limits the service though.
The overflow from brunch has to sit in the upper level with no order taking available. That means if you chose to sit upstairs, you have to order your beer and food at the bar and someone will bring it to you; a very minor inconvenience.
The fish tostadas were suprisingly very good. I don't know why they serve the tacos with pork but not the tostadas. One (tostadas) is an appitizer while the other is a main menu item.
Not all the beers mentioned on their website are readily available. In fact, I would fair to guess only 1/3.
I tried the Watemellon Wheat based on Elan's recommendation, who i met a few days earlier at Speakeasy. I was pleasantly suprised. I am not a wheat beer drinker. The watermellon taste does come through in the beer. Very similar to a lemon affect.
The Brew Free IPA and the Double Trouble are excellant.
Boy, did I luck out! I was in San Francisco for the weekend trying out microbrews. Speakeasy was on the list of places to try. For some reason on Friday, we said lets go down to Speakeasy tonight ratehr than tomorrow. Little did I know that the only time they are open to the public is Friday evening 4:15 to 8:00 PM. It's on Evans, about six blocks off the F line of Muni. Be patient, the F line is eratic.
The beers are fantastic. Big Daddy wonderful, Double Daddy, twice as good, full bodied, simply put; fantastic. Prohibition is excellant. There is some finger food, taquitos. Although I didn't try any. Brewer is available to talk to.
Finally a place that knows how to saute' peppers and onions and one that serves real French Fries. Philly Cheesesteak was very good; as was the French Dip. The Frnech fries were actually fried and hot when served. A real treat compared to other places that bake their "fries". The beers, as usaual, are great. The IPA is a pleasure to drink. The server acted like she really didn't want to be there
I have been here a couple of times on my trips to Long Island. Face it's a little pricier than the rest of the country. My experience is the waitstaff is great. Their very friendly. First visit I tried the pumkin ale. If it hadn't been for the sugar and cpices on the rim of the glass, it pretty much would have been a tastless brew. As I think about it, pumpkin with out the sugar and nutmeg is a pretty tastless vegetable. The peel'n'eat shrip while out of season were pretty good. The was no frozen taste. I was impressed. The Hopped Kitty is, in my opinion, their best selection. Great hop taste. The Stout was good although served a little too cold. After it warms up, the flavor comes out.
Great selection doesn't tranclate into great beer. I had the sampler and for the most part nothing really stood out. The IPA were really good, as was the Stout. Other than those, while a nice place to sit and visit, nothing great. However, I will go back on this fall when back for GABF.
I really like this place. The beer is always great. The only drawbacks are their growler prices are a little steep and the menu should be changed avery so often. The bar-b-q pork sandwich is pretty good.
On a slow Friday the help seemed to be put out when a customer arrived. They were out of IPA. I can't remember what I did order. It must not have been very memorable. I had the pulled pork sanwich. It's a 1/3 lb. Half that would have sufficed. As the previous reviewer stated, it is a little dry. It's served on a hamburger roll; which makes the combination really thick. I think a Kaiser roll would be better. With two sides, I was not able to eat the whole thing. The menu didn't list without the two sides but when the bill came the price was separated. If I go back, I'll see if I can not get so much and I do want to try the ribs and a few other of their ales.
Slow night, so they were closing early; within 15 minutes after I got there. I only had time for the O'Holy Hops whcih was fantastic and the Scottish. I can't comment on the Scottish as it was just after I had the O'Holy. I will be sure to go back the next time I am in the area.
The long awaited Grand Openng was 10/22. While, at the moment they are a beer bar, they plan to brew their own as soon as permits are finalized. They are having a dubbel contract brewed as of now. However, it won't be available for a couple of more days. I was really impressed by the support they received yesterday. Constant crowd of over 100 patrons during the time I was there. I hope it continues. The food menu which i didn't try was quite limited. While I didn't examine the micro list very closely, it seems they had something from almost every brewery in WA; even the three newest ones. Service was so-so, only based on the overwhelming amount of people on opening night; that it was hard for them to keep up and the constant line at the end of the bar. I do have one suggestion though - get two cash registers (a little congested when everyone was lining up to ring up their sales)
