Establishment: Weeping Radish, Manteo, NC

Visited during Oktoberfest, Sept. 11. The Fest/Marzen was good, and I liked the Black Radish. Otherwise, it's difficult, and perhaps unfair, to rate them on this one night. It reminded me of how some Irish bars do St. Patrick's Day: a big crowd, a loud ethnic band, and a limited menu. But people were having fun.

Hugh Sisson gives a good tour. It was a pleasure to discuss beer and the microbrewery business with him. Clipper City's e-mail address is clipper1@ix.netcom.net

Establishment: Rams Head Tavern, Savage, MD

Open about one month with no publicity that I know of, but Thursday happy hour was still busy. $2 happy hour pints. I didn't get a look at the menu. It's an attracive setting overall. There is live entertainment, some nights at least, but no stage as in Annapolis (at least not yet). Bartendress Mary handled the happy hour crowd better than most I've seen.
